This position is open to all candidates, including Locum or Traveling professionals.

Position Highlights:

  • Logistics:
    • Pay: $150.00+ per hour
    • Contract Type: 1 base year with 4, 1-year option periods
    • Schedule: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday with rotating weekend/holiday coverage.
    • Location: 100 Emancipation Dr., Hampton, VA.
  • Requirements:
    • Authorization to work in the U.S. permanently, without sponsorship.
    • Board Certified /Board Eligible by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
    • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
    • Previous experience with the VA is a plus.

What does a typical day look like for the Board Certified/Board Eligible Psychiatrist?

You will:

  • Schedule: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday with rotating weekend/holiday coverage.
  • See about 12-15 patients each day.
  • Direct Patient Care: estimated 95% of the time involved in direct patient care. Contractor shall be responsible for performing all tasks below.
    • Inpatient Care: All Psychiatry Physicians will be required to work in collaboration with Mental Health staff who are part-time or full-time salaried by the VA for inpatient care duties including but not limited to:
      • Operating and collaborating with patients
      • Seeing Ward Patients
      • Admitting
      • Diagnosis of patients
      • Developing Treatment Plans
      • Managing, including the performance of timely treatment
      • Discharge/Transfer
      • Including all needed medical record documentation
      • Outpatient Care
      • Seeing all new patient referrals with accompanying medical records
      • Seeing severely mentally ill patients
      • Evaluation disposition E-consult
      • Post-discharge follow-up
      • Patients must be seen by provider in 30 days
      • History and Physical (H&P) as required and any other documentation
  • Administrative: estimated 5% of time not involved in direct patient care.

What qualifications do you look for?

  • Board Certified /Board Eligible by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Previous experience with the VA is a plus.
    If selected, candidates will need to complete credentialing and onboarding requirements consistent with VA medical staff processes.
