Job description

Health Information Technician

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Health Information Technician for the Kiley Developmental Center located in Waukegan, Illinois to prepare and code all clinical records including medical and psychiatric diagnoses. Interprets and evaluates clinical records. Conducts clinical chart audits for the presence, completeness, timeliness and authentication of key assessments and other documents. Serves on facility-wide oversight committees concerning health information. Reviews petitions, certificates and related documents pertaining to civil commitment. Coordinates release of information activities, including review of court orders and subpoenas, approval of authorizations from outside agencies, retrieval of records and identification of requested documents. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications: Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to two (2) years of college. Requires one (1) year of experience in health information records procedures. Requires accreditation as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).

Conditions of Employment: Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers. Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm, 30-minute unpaid lunch
