Job description

Groundwater & Environmental Services, Inc. (GES) is a recognized industry leader providing innovative environmental consulting, engineering, compliance, and technical field services across a wide range of market sectors. We are currently seeking a Senior Groundwater Treatment System OM&M Technician to support treatment operations in the Los Angeles area (Torrance). This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced environmental field professional looking to work for a collaborative company in a safety-first environment.


The Senior Technician position executes the following activities:

  • Performs complex to critical level remedial system O&M, troubleshooting, optimization, and monitoring/sampling activities including but not limited to:
    • Assures integrity, cleanliness, and security of system enclosure and equipment
    • Observes and records specific O&M monitoring device readings
    • Performs critical safety device/failsafe component checks
    • Performs system preventative maintenance procedures and checks
    • Collects system samples according to established permit requirements
    • Makes high level recommendations for improving system performance
  • Records field notes and O&M sheets for specific tasks performed at each site and follows established procedures for documenting all field activities.
  • Conducts well gauging, well development, routine groundwater/soil sampling, and other general field-related services, including general labor and construction activities as permitted by GES policies and procedures.
  • Performs general subcontractor oversight and self-performs (where applicable) field-related activities related to remediation work (i.e. trenching, subsurface piping, shed and electrical installations).
  • Applying mechanical knowledge and experience to troubleshoot and maintain equipment such as transfer pumps, flowmeters, filters, and other monitoring equipment.
  • Using precision measuring equipment and various hand and power tools.
  • Documenting and supervising various trade contractors (i.e. excavation, construction, carbon changeout services, waste disposal).
  • Performing general labor, plumbing repairs, and construction duties based on the project requirements.
  • Working with groundwater wells, piping and electric well pumps.
  • Completing groundwater sampling using bailer and low flow methods.
  • Maintaining equipment calibration logs.
  • Recording field data to the specific task performed at each site location.
  • Submittal of field data via email using a GES-owned computer.
  • Performing system sampling and transporting water samples to the laboratory as needed.
  • Following GES engineering, construction, and O&M policies and procedures.
  • Adhering to GES Health & Safety Standards in all field-related activities.

Skills & Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 5โ€“10+ years of related environmental field experience.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and experience working with remediation systems and environmental sampling equipment.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is preferred. (GES will provide training for the right candidate if not already certified.)
  • Candidates with water treatment experience and/or California Certified Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator certificate strongly preferred
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, overnights, and travel on short notice.
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying conditions.
  • Valid driverโ€™s license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong attention to detail, work ethic, and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
