Job description

St. Andrews Country Club, located in Boca Raton Florida is seeking an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to assist with the overseeing of the maintenance and operations of one of its two championship 18-hole golf courses and associated practice facilities. This hands-on leader will supervise a crew of 15-25 employees and work closely with the Superintendent and Director of Golf Course Maintenance to ensure daily conditioning and presentation meet the highest standards.
The Assistant will contribute to team-wide success by assisting with operations on either golf course as needed and supporting large-scale projects including the upcoming Palmer Course renovation, lake bank restoration, and the construction of a new Agronomy Center.

Initial Priorities of the Position:
  • Become familiar with the facility and the crew
  • Assist Superintendent with daily course maintenance

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Daily course setup and inspection, ensuring peak playability and presentation standards.
  • Supervision, training, evaluation, and discipline of agronomy staff.
  • Manage and monitor irrigation systems (Rainbird) and related maintenance.
  • Fertilizer and chemical planning, inventory, and application.
  • Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and assist with budget planning.
  • Initiate and oversee purchase orders for supplies and materials.
  • Collaborate with Golf Operations and other departments to meet scheduling needs.
  • Conduct safety and staff meetings; ensure all procedures are followed.
  • Perform final daily course inspections and adjust operations as needed.
  • Evaluate vendors and new products for current and future use.
  • Support planning and execution of capital projects and renovations.

Qualifications:
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management or a related field (preferred, not required).
  • 4-7 years in golf course maintenance, with demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Florida State Pesticide License or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment
  • Strong working knowledge of turf equipment (John Deere, Toro, Baroness).
  • Proven leadership, training, and communication skills.
  • Ability to balance hands-on work with crew delegation.
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 80 lbs. and working in a range of outdoor conditions.
