Overview
The City of Louisville is looking for a full time, year round Golf Course Mechanic. This position is under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, the Golf Course Mechanic is responsible for maintenance and repair of all golf course equipment and mowers. You will provide additional assistance with maintaining small machine equipment from the Parks and Open Space Division. Performs preventive services on a variety of riding mowers, mowertractors,vehicles and equipment to include replacing filters, worn or damaged parts and adding fluids as needed. Must keep detailed maintenance records, be able to place orders and maintain inventory of needed parts, and provide a clean, safe, effective and efficient work environment. Responsible for preventative mechanical repairs on variety of gasoline and diesel powered equipment as well as specialized golf course equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.

Examples of Duties
  • Perform all duties required to provide safe operating equipment for golf course maintenance.
  • Able to train, and motivate seasonal staff on safe operation and cleaning practices of equipment.
  • Maintain and repair small engine equipment, light and mid duty mowers, hydraulic and electronic diagnosis and repair, adjust height of cut, sharpen reels, sharpen rotary blades, cart fleet, city vehicles, aerators, tractors, spray equipment, plows, and any equipment necessary to maintain and sustain the golf course property.
  • Advise and recommend equipment and tools necessary to maintain golf, parks, and open space operations.
  • Must be all to communicate with staff, be very organized, and detail oriented.
  • Exercise courtesy and tact in dealing with coworkers and general public
  • Perform snow removal operations on city property as needed.

General Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have minimum three (3) years experience in general mechanics, prefer experience in the turf grass fields mechanical equipment (mowers, Toro's, etc.)
  • Prior experience as Mechanic with a Municipality, Golf Course or Service Equipment Company preferred
  • Must possess a State of Colorado Driver's License with an acceptable driving record for past 3 years and must be maintained throughout employment.

Additional Information
  • Ability to diagnose, repair and maintain small internal combustion engines related to golf course equipment (mowers).
  • Ability to properly operate and train employees on equipment necessary to maintain golf course, clubhouse, and native areas.
  • Skill and knowledge to grind reels, bedknives, set height of cut, reel to bedknife adjustments.
  • Skills in the operation and safe use of tools and equipment
  • Ability to maintain an accurate inventory of necessary equipment and parts.
  • Ability to problem-solve and make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
  • Ability to monitor quality of cut and make adjustments in the field.
  • Participating knowledge and an understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf and how maintenance practices will affect conditions on the course.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions while repairing equipment.
  • Knowledge of and willingness to apply work safety rules and procedures.
  • Ability and experience in the safe operation of tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Ability to read, write and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with co-workers, citizens, and contractors.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to set up and use Foley United Grinders a plus, but not required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:
While performing the essential duties of the position, the employee must wear ear protection when operating loud equipment and be able to lift up to 50 lbs. without assistance and 100 lbs. with assistance. Must be dexterous enough to use hands and fingers to grasp and manipulate tools; must be agile enough to climb on, off, in, out or under equipment being repaired; must be able to work in confined areas such as underneath vehicles, etc.; must possess adequate upper and lower body strength to maintain control while repairing vehicles and/or equipment; must hear well enough to receive communications; must speak clearly and loudly enough to be heard and understood; must see well enough to safely operate equipment; must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Frequent exposure to noise levels that may cause distractions. Work may be performed in an outdoor environment occasionally in inclement weather conditions including: heat, rain, wind and sun. The employee regularly works around golf course equipment and is exposed to equipment vibration, fumes, airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
Travel by city owned vehicle is required to transport equipment and/or employees to work sites.
