Who are we hiring?
The Kansas City Current is seeking a highly motivated and soccer-intelligent Data Analyst to support the club's technical, performance, and sporting operations departments. This role will play a key part in transforming data into actionable football insights that directly influence match preparation, player development, recruitment, performance optimization, and decision-making across the organization.
The ideal candidate combines a deep understanding of the game with advanced technical and analytical capabilities. This individual must be comfortable operating in a fast-paced elite sporting environment, collaborating daily with coaches, analysts, performance staff, and front office leadership.
This role requires strong programming and systems-building expertise, including the ability to design and maintain scalable data infrastructure, automate workflows, and develop customized tools that support the technical staff's day-to-day football operations.
What will you do?
Football Intelligence & Technical Support
  1. Deliver actionable insights to coaching and technical staff through pre-match, post-match, and opposition analysis.
  2. Support match preparation by analyzing tactical trends, player tendencies, team style profiles, and game model adherence.
  3. Assist in player recruitment and talent identification through data-driven evaluation and benchmarking.
  4. Develop individualized player performance reports and long-term development tracking systems.
  5. Translate complex football data into clear and practical recommendations for coaches and staff.
  6. Ensure all analytical outputs align with the club's football philosophy and playing principles.

Data Infrastructure & Systems Development
  1. Build and maintain scalable data systems and infrastructure to support sporting operations.
  2. Develop automated pipelines and workflows integrating tracking, event, video, wellness, medical, and performance data.
  3. Design and maintain internal tools, dashboards, and applications for technical staff using Python, SQL, R, APIs, and visualization platforms.
  4. Create customized reporting solutions that streamline analysis workflows and improve decision-making efficiency.
  5. Support integration and management of third-party football data providers and platforms.

Performance & Player Analysis
  1. Collaborate with sports science and medical staff to analyze workload, readiness, and performance trends.
  2. Support player monitoring initiatives through GPS, biometric, wellness, and match-load data analysis.
  3. Assist with predictive modeling and injury-risk monitoring initiatives.
  4. Develop visualizations and dashboards to support player development plans and return-to-play processes.

Innovation & Research
  1. Stay current on emerging trends in football analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data engineering.
  2. Explore innovative analytical methods to improve tactical understanding, player evaluation, and performance forecasting.

What do you need to succeed?
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Sports Analytics, Mathematics, Exercise Science, or related field.
  • Strong soccer IQ and advanced understanding of tactical, technical, and positional concepts within elite football.
  • Experience working within professional, collegiate, academy, or elite sporting environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Experience building automated data workflows, pipelines, and reporting systems.
  • Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with football data providers and analysis platforms such as StatsBomb, Hudl, Wyscout, SkillCorner, Sportscode, or similar tools.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex information to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience with machine learning, predictive analytics, or artificial intelligence applications in sport.
  • Experience integrating video, tracking, and event data.
  • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, APIs, and database architecture.
  • Experience developing custom applications or internal tools for coaches and analysts.

Special requirements of the Job:
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, inclusive of weekends, nights (event evenings & overnight operation shifts) and holidays.
  • Ability to monitor company communications and respond to time-sensitive matters with senior executives.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and move around the venue for extended periods of time, often during events or facility setup and breakdown.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed for event setup, equipment management, or assisting with operational needs.
  • Requires occasional bending, squatting, and reaching overhead to handle various tasks related to facility management, equipment, and event preparation.
  • Must be capable of working in physically demanding environments, including navigating stairs, ramps, and elevated platforms during venue conversions.
  • Ability to work outdoors continuously for extended periods of time in all weather conditions
