The Staff Accountant position supports the organization's financial operations by performing a variety of accounting tasks, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting. This role impacts the accuracy and timeliness of financial data and contributes to the integrity of the general ledger. The Staff Accountant works closely with the accounting leadership team to maintain compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Below are the primary duties and essential functions of an employee in this position. - Prepare and post journal entries to the general ledger in accordance with GAAP.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual credit card, balance sheet account, and bank statement reconciliations. Work with the Accounting Manager to ensure all transactions are posted correctly and that discrepancies are addressed promptly.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and internal reports.
- Ensure accounting procedures are followed and documented accurately.
- Support the development and refinement of workflows and internal controls.
- Maintain organized records and audit trails for all financial transactions.
- Assist with GL system updates and with validating data integrity under the direction of the Director of Accounting Operations.
- Provide support during annual budgeting process, including data gathering and entry.
- Support internal and external audit processes by preparing schedules and documentation.
- Review cash reports from county offices, assist the county offices in necessary corrections, and maintain the county cash spreadsheets.
- Timely and accurately complete the quarterly Medicaid Administrative Outreach Roster and Cost Report as well as other miscellaneous surveys and required external reporting's
- Daily Banking - processing exceptions, being vigilant in watching for fraud, ACH banking adjustments, posting daily cash reports, writing up cash received, and managing ACH transaction rules.
- Miscellaneous billings
- Manage and reconcile fixed assets monthly, ensuring that all records are accurate and properly documented
- Prepare and file property tax returns and manage property tax exemption filings.
- Auditing and processing Company Mileage/employee expense reimbursements
- Maintaining a list of stale unreconciled checks, tracking communication with payees, and determining when to void and reissue payments
- Complete all reports and special projects assigned by the Vice President of Finance, Accounting Director, or Accounting Manager on an accurate and timely basis
- Provide back up for the Accounts Payable Coordinator and Accounting Specialist in their absence
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
Physical Requirements:
- Occupational Exposure Risk Classification: The normal work routine involves minimal/moderate/frequent exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
- The normal work routine has a minimal/moderate/frequent ergonomic risk for repetitive motion impairment.
- The position may require a minimal/moderate/frequent amount of physical exertion (bending, lifting, twisting) in the work area.
- The position requires the ability to engage with patients who may become violent and to participate in physical patient holds using approved techniques when necessary.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting preferred, associate's degree in accounting Required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience
- Valid driver's license and active auto insurance coverage.
- Satisfactory results from criminal and driving record background checks
