Cactus Feeders is an Amarillo, Texas-based cattle company. Originally founded by the Engler Family in 1975, Cactus is now 100% Employee-Owned, producing over one million head of fed cattle annually. The Company operates feedyards throughout the Texas Panhandle, Southwest Kansas, and Eastern Colorado.

Location: Hale Center Feedyard in Hale Center, TX

Work Schedule: Full-Time; Rotational Weekends

Job Description:

Hale Center Feedyard is seeking a dependable and mechanically inclined Feedmill Maintenance Technician to join our team! This position is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and improving feedmill equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable feed production. Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical systems, welding and fabrication, equipment repairs, and supporting daily feedmill operations.

The ideal candidate takes pride in quality workmanship, demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude, works well independently and as part of a team, and is committed to maintaining a safe and productive work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventative maintenance on feedmill equipment, including conveyors, augers, elevators, mixers, boilers, steamers, flakers, motors, gearboxes, bearings, and other production equipment
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical equipment to minimize downtime and maintain efficient feed production
  • Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, and metal repair projects using appropriate tools and equipment
  • Install, repair, replace, and align equipment components as needed
  • Conduct routine inspections to identify wear, damage, and maintenance needs before equipment failures occur
  • Maintain an organized maintenance shop and ensure tools, parts, and equipment are properly maintained
  • Assist with facility maintenance projects throughout the feedmill and feedyard as needed
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities
  • Communicate effectively with the Feedmill Manager and crew members to prioritize maintenance needs and support daily operations
  • Follow all company safety policies and comply with OSHA, EPA, FDA, and company standards
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support feedmill and yard operations

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required
  • Previous maintenance, welding, agricultural, industrial, or feedmill experience preferred
  • Welding and metal fabrication experience required
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair equipment
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, grinders, and welding equipment
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems is preferred
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and work in confined spaces when necessary
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Strong work ethic, dependable attendance, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Valid driver's license required
