The company operates feedyards throughout the Texas Panhandle, Southwest Kansas, and Eastern Colorado.


Location: Centerfire Feedyard in Ulysses, Kansas


About the Position

Cactus Feeders is seeking a dependable and hardworking Feed Truck Driver & Maintenance Technician to join the team at Centerfire Feedyard in Ulysses, Kansas. This dual-role position is responsible for safely and efficiently delivering feed to cattle while assisting with facility maintenance, equipment upkeep, and general feedyard operations.

This is a full-time position that may require extended work hours Monday through Friday, rotational weekends, and some holiday work as operational needs dictate.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Feed Delivery Responsibilities

  • Deliver correct rations safely, accurately, and on schedule.
  • Ensure proper feed placement at the bunk to support cattle health and performance.
  • Maintain accurate ration records and complete required documentation.
  • Observe cattle, bunks, and surrounding conditions, reporting concerns to management.
  • Communicate effectively with bunk readers, feed department personnel, and supervisors.
  • Assist with bunk maintenance and cleanliness before and after inclement weather.
  • Operate feed trucks and related equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain cleanliness and operational readiness of assigned equipment.

Maintenance Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining pens, facilities, and grounds throughout the operation.
  • Help ensure a continuous supply of fresh water by repairing and maintaining water systems, tanks, and related infrastructure.
  • Operate tractors, mowers, and other equipment to mow grass, control weeds, and maintain feedyard appearance.
  • Repair fencing, replace cables, clips, gates, and other facility components as needed.
  • Paint and perform general upkeep on buildings, pens, and equipment.
  • Complete routine equipment servicing including fueling, checking fluid levels, inspecting filters, greasing, and cleaning equipment.
  • Assist with facility improvement projects and other maintenance assignments as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of experience in feedyard operations, agriculture, equipment operation, maintenance, or a related field.
  • High school diploma, GED, or technical/trade school education preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and observational skills.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent climbing, bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching.
  • Frequently ascend and descend ladders to access feed trucks and equipment.
  • Long periods of sitting while operating vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to perform manual labor, including shoveling and facility maintenance tasks.
  • Must be able to pass a physical agility assessment.
  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, snow, dust, and mud.
