Job description

Job Summary:
The Companion CNA provides essential non-medical care, assistance, and companionship to clients in their homes. The role focuses on promoting clients' safety, comfort, and well-being through personal care, light housekeeping, and social interaction while ensuring compliance with safety and privacy regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Personal Care Assistance (35%)
    • Assist with activities of daily living such as ambulation, personal hygiene, oral care, bathing, dressing, hair care, cosmetic application, and medication reminders.
    • Monitor client safety during daily tasks and non-skilled care.
  2. Light Housekeeping (30%)
    • Perform housekeeping tasks such as laundry, dusting, vacuuming, mopping, making beds, and changing linens.
    • Assist with meal preparation, plant care, pet care, and errand running.
    • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in the home, ensuring the client's environment is safe and tidy.
  3. Safety and Communication (20%)
    • Report unsafe conditions to the client and supervisor immediately.
    • Follow universal safety precautions and assist in enforcing them.
    • Engage in meaningful communication and activities with clients, including social outings, conversations, reading aloud, and ensuring client understanding.
  4. Administrative and Compliance Tasks (10%)
    • Submit documentation (e.g., time reports, mileage, and client care reports) before established deadlines.
    • Follow infection control guidelines and maintain privacy rules and regulations as per HIPAA.
    • Attend all meetings and complete in-services and mandatory training.
    • Provide exceptional customer service and high-quality care by showing compassion and empathy towards clients and their families
  5. Other Duties as Assigned (5%)

Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification: Valid South Carolina CNA certification.
  • Experience: At least one year of employment experience preferred, ideally as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
  • Skills: Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Compassionate and patient with a commitment to client care. Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively with client and supervisor. Must be capable of completing assigned job duties and follow a care services plan with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and turn, move, and transport patients using proper body mechanics and lifting devices as needed.
  • Capacity to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks and physical activities, such as bending, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Work is performed in a healthcare setting with potential exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and chemicals.
  • Must be able to work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
  • Must have a valid South Carolina driver's license and be able to travel throughout the service area.
