Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a float pool Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital in Macon, GA, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience and Epic proficiency.

Details
  • Float pool position covering all Med/Surg Telemetry units within a large 637-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital
  • Inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry units ranging from 20โ€“36 beds per unit
  • Patient population includes acute and chronic disease, common comorbidities (diabetes, hypertension, infections, electrolyte imbalances), cardiac patients (post-cath, CHF, a-fib), and post-surgical patients (general, ortho, trauma)
  • Patient ratios: RN 1:4โ€“6, LPN 1:4โ€“6, CNA up to 1:14
  • Procedures include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, IV maintenance, glucommander, telemetry monitoring and rhythm interpretation, post-cath care, TR band management, post-cath groin site management (no sheath pulls)
  • Required drip management: insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, nicardipine (titration for HR only, not BP)
  • EMR: Epic โ€” 6 months of experience required
  • Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, and Nova Glucose Stat Strips
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7Pโ€“7A, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation: 5โ€“6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Float pool assignment includes floating to all Med/Surg Tele units and to the ED for holds
Requirements
  • Active GA or Compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required
  • 6 months of Epic EMR experience required
  • Strong telemetry skills including cardiac rhythm monitoring and interpretation required
  • Strong assessment, time management, care coordination, discharge planning, and patient education skills required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
  • Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • An EKG competency exam is required during onboarding; ACLS preferred but not required at time of hire
  • Med/Surg certification is a plus
  • Support staff includes CNAs, unit secretaries (on unit 7Aโ€“11P, house-wide after), charge nurses, discharge nurses, a resource float team, PICC team, Respiratory Therapy 24/7, Hospitalists 24/7, Intensivists 24/7, and a central telemetry monitoring unit
  • Holiday coverage required โ€” travelers are expected to work one shift for each major holiday grouping: Thanksgiving Day or the day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1
  • Time-off requests must be submitted to and approved by the Manager
  • RN scrub color: Navy
  • Unit culture is described as busy and team-oriented
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
