Job Title: Registered Nurse - Telemetry (High Acuity / Stepdown)
Facility: Mercy Medical Center Merced - Merced, CA 95340
Start Date: January 12, 2026
Duration: 13 Weeks
Shift: 12-Hour Nights (36 hrs/week, every other weekend, 2 of 3 major holidays)
Position Overview
We're seeking an experienced Telemetry RN to join the 4th Floor Telemetry Unit at Mercy Medical Center Merced, a Level II facility with a high-acuity, PCU/Stepdown environment. This role requires strong clinical judgment, cardiac rhythm interpretation skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting.

  • Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • EMR: Cerner (preferred experience)
  • Scrub Color: Navy
  • Orientation: 2 shifts (with Cerner experience) or 3 shifts (without Cerner)
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care for telemetry/PCU-level patients, including cardiac, post-CVA, CHF, respiratory failure, HTN, and post-op cases.
  • Interpret cardiac rhythms (Client monitoring system).
  • Administer and monitor non-titrating drips (e.g., Cardizem, Heparin).
  • Float to Med-Surg as needed (travelers float first).
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure safe, evidence-based care.
  • Function independently in a primary nursing model when nurse aides are unavailable.
Unit Support
  • Charge Nurse: On every shift (does not take patients)
  • Nurse Aides: Present but not guaranteed
  • RT: 24/7
  • Pharmacy: 24/7
  • Hospitalist: In-house 24/7
  • No IV Team or Call Requirement
Requirements
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years (Telemetry or PCU preferred)
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (required)
  • License: Active California RN license (required at submission)
  • Restrictions:
    • Must reside 50+ miles from the facility (no local rates).
    • Cannot be perm or per diem at any CommonSpirit facility in the past 12 months.
    • Cannot hold a second job; must prioritize this travel assignment.
