Reports To: Department Head for Pastoral Ministries
Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 2:00 pm, (Evenings and weekends as needed)
Summary: The Office of Pastoral Care promotes the dignity of the human person through awareness, education, and ministry. The office represents the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church in supporting direct parish ministry, collaborating with community organizations, and integrating in a " pastoral de conjunto" to serve the multicultural pastoral needs of children, youth, young adults, adults, persons with disabilities and seniors. The Director is responsible for the vision and strategy of ministry in the following subject areas: Catholic healthcare and bioethics, end of life decisions, mental health, disabilities, special needs, and outreach ministries to incarceration facilities and healthcare facilities. The Director of Pastoral Care works with the Department staff and volunteers to accomplish tasks according to the direction and priorities of the Archbishop in collaboration with the Moderator of the Curia.
The Director also oversees staff to serve as directors in the following ministries: Criminal Justice Ministry, Deaf Ministry, and Hospital Ministry. The Director of Pastoral Care supervises these directors and assists them in their administrative, budgetary, and ministerial functions.
Requirements
Position Responsibilities:
  • *Stay up to date on communication from the Church Magisterium and different coordinating bodies of the college of bishops (The Magisterium, USCCB, TCCB, etc.).
  • Be informed of any important gathering or activity internal or external to the Catholic Church in National / Regional / Local matters pertaining to this role.
  • *Work with pastors and parish leaders to create or support parish-based ministries that encourage and promote Church Teaching on all matters of pastoral care.
  • *Provide resource review and recommendations for parishes.
  • *Facilitate and assist Communications Department and other areas of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Ministry Center in the development of content to support events and initiatives that focus on matters of pastoral care.
  • *Offer and discuss with Communications Department and Catholic Charities of San Antonio specific content in support of the USCCB campaigns and priorities: Catholic healthcare and bioethics, end of life decisions, mental health, disabilities, special needs, and outreach ministries.
  • Work closely with the Department Head of the Office for Communications to ensure information is posted regularly, to keep informed of issues critical to the Church and to debrief the DPM Leadership of critical matters of importance.
  • *Assist the Archbishop, Bishops, Moderator of the Curia, and Department Heads as needed with additional requests or related tasks.
  • Create and lead on behalf of Archbishop commissions, advisory boards, and task forces to work collaboratively in pastoral initiatives and special assignments when necessary.
  • *Participate in task force teams in creating, planning, annual goals and objectives, evaluating programs and events, in matters of content and attending department meetings as required.
  • *Develop National / Regional / Local Partnerships and Relationships.
  • *Maintain good working relationships, and effective communications between ministries and office
  • *Meet regularly with ministry directors to provide support, encouragement, training, accountability and direction
  • *Support the development of office budgets focused on goals and implementing strategies
  • *Responsible for ministry evaluation and work plan, monitoring and evaluation for the office. Will work with ministry directors to hold one another accountable for the development and management of their individual and ministry priorities
  • Responsible for working with each ministry directors to maintain an effective ministry, and to ensure that work is being completed in a timely and professional manner
  • *Responsible for guiding and working with the Ministry Directors to maintain an effective ministry, and to ensure that work is being completed in a timely and professional manner.
  • Monitors staff hours, reviews, and approves timesheets in a timely manner.
  • *Ensures the mission, vision, values and priorities of the archdiocese is communicated clearly and carried out effectively, efficiently and collaboratively within assigned office.
  • *Motivate employees by leading by example, resolving issues, and making sound decisions.
  • *In collaboration and consultation with the Department Head, establish and implement strategic short- and long-term office goals, plans, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • In collaboration with the Department Head recruits, interviews, hires, and trains office staff within assigned office.
  • *Meet regularly with Department Head to apprise him/her of the status Pastoral Care ministries and activities
  • Adhere to safety training and protocols daily and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education :
  • Master's degree in Theology, Pastoral Ministry, Church Leadership and/or Business Administration, Non-Profit Management or comparable field.

Experience :
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in program development and evaluation, project management, operations or business management with at least 3 years of experience in pastoral care and management.
  • Must be a Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church;

License and Credentials:
  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid driver license
  • Valid vehicle insurance

Minimum Knowledge and Skills:
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred;
  • Leadership experience including team-building, coaching, and strategic planning;
  • Strong management skills with ability to support, lead, motivate, and evaluate employees and initiatives;
  • Extensive working knowledge of Catholic Church teachings and related papal, council, USCCB and pastoral letter documents;
  • Experience with computer software, thorough proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite and social media. Other publishing programs preferred.
  • A solid grasp on critical thinking and problem solving in context of the mission of the archdiocese;
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team;
  • Must have good written and verbal skills;
  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and excellence in organizational and project management with the ability to achieve strategic objectives while managing a budget;
  • Ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders with impeccable integrity;
