This position is responsible for enforcing health and safety guidelines, policies, and procedures within the workplace.

Responsibilities

        Promote a safe workplace without risk to health

        Ensure the workplace satisfies health and safety requirements

        Proactive prevention and precautions against, or adequate control of, exposure to hazardous substances, and danger from flammable, explosive, electrical, noise, radiation and manual handling risks

        Investigate accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventable measures

        Report or review findings from accident investigations and facilities inspections

        Provide weekly reports on activities and observations

        Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance

        Work with the Safety Manager to conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment

        Interview employers and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents

        Communicates safety policies with customers

        Act as safety resource contact for site managers on multiple projects / jobs

        Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

        A valid driver's license required

        High school diploma or equivalent required

        Bachelor's degree in safety related program preferred

        Minimum of 5 years work experience in safety and/or compliance functions required

        Prior experience in ash management, waste, civil-type construction or related environment preferred

        OSHA 500 certification required

        A familiarity with OSHA 1926 standards and requirements

        A working knowledge of heavy equipment and excavation safety

        Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions

        Experience with Microsoft Office Suite required

        Position requires honesty, dependability, and ability to be relied upon, responsible, and fulfill obligations

Work Environment & Conditions

        Ability to use electronic equipment such as computer, cell phone and handheld radio for communication with supervisors and co-workers

        This position requires a flexible work schedule: nights, weekends and holidays

        Must be able to climb, maintain body equilibrium, reach, grasp, bend and walk/stand/sit for extended periods of time

        Must be able to hear and see naturally or with correction

        Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

        Be subject to loud noises

        Be subject to atmospheric conditions - one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin: fumes, odor, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation
