Job description

SUMMARY
The CSS Instructor will instruct and prepare students for workforce employment as computer support service personnel with the basic knowledge, understanding, and problem-solving ability to skillfully and efficiently perform the duties of their respective jobs. The combined classroom and lab activities are oriented toward developing safety attitudes and habits, and developing leadership abilities which will aid the student in acquiring a job, maintaining that job, and advancing within his/her occupation. As many of the duties will be supervising groups of students without benefit of additional help or administrative supervision, the job requires significant self-discipline, internal motivation, and sound judgment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  1. Teach students the necessary skills/technical knowledge to become gainfully employed;
  2. Develop, maintain, revise competency-based computer support technology curriculum;
  3. Recruit students and market the program;
  4. Provide instruction on and access to on-the job training. Maintain records of OJT assignments;
  5. Develop student knowledge and awareness as to the importance of industrial safety, punctuality, personal cleanliness, work ethic, customer relations, and communication skills;
  6. Work collaboratively with other Computer Support Instructors at HCC;
  7. Assist with employment placement of graduates;
  8. Create a safe and orderly learning environment that facilitates positive behavior and learning for all students by supporting discipline plans and consistently enforcing rules;
  9. Ensure student achievement for all student groups by monitoring the progress of individual students and student groups through the use of appropriate testing techniques and with the assistance of technology when appropriate;
  10. Build positive school/community relations by supporting the mission of the College and facilitating cooperation between all persons in the school community;
  11. Lead the students in developing constructive peer and student/instructor relations and assist students in the development of thinking skills;
  12. Oversee effective and efficient student performance:
    1. Set high expectations for learning for all students based on their individual needs;
    2. Utilize a variety of instructional materials, activities and approaches appropriate to the needs of individual learners;
    3. Develop and monitor plans of improvement for students who are not meeting academic goals;
    4. Support all modifications and plans as directed by the student disability services
  13. Practice responsible fiscal, facility, and resource management by:
    1. Procuring classroom supplies and shop equipment following budget guidelines;
    2. Establish behavior guidelines that ensures the care and maintenance of facilities an equipment;
    3. Procure appropriate resources for teaching adopted curriculum standards;
  14. Model positive professional attributes by:
    1. Participating in professional activities to enhance knowledge and skills;
    2. Use written and spoken language well;
    3. Handle student work in a timely, confidential and effective manner;
    4. Maintain classroom hours sufficient to meet job expectations;
  15. Follow and support improvement initiatives and state and federal mandates:
    1. Participate in target area goals interventions and activities;
    2. Compile needed support documentation as requested;
    3. Ensure student mastery of adopted curriculum;
  16. Attend professional meetings;
  17. Select and consult with advisory committee members;
  18. Attend commencement ceremonies;
  19. Other duties as assigned.
