Job description

Position Overview:
As a Cheese Monger you are the specialist and responsible for the selection, care and sales of cheeses within a grocery retail environment. You are responsible for providing knowledge to customers on various types of cheeses including their flavors, textures, origins and production methods.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Providing excellent customer service when customers are choosing cheeses based on their preferences, offering recommendations and providing information about the cheese selection available
  • Proper handling and storage of cheeses are crucial to maintaining the quality - ensuring they are stored at the correct temperatures and humidity.
  • Cutting and packaging the cheeses based on customer requests/selection
  • Staying informed about the latest trends in the cheese industry, new arrivals and unique offerings
  • Knowledgeable in pairing cheeses with complementary foods and beverages such as wines, crackers, fruits etc.
  • Educating customers about the origins, production processes and characteristics of different cheese
  • Conducting tastings or offering educational sessions to enhance the customers experience and appreciate for cheese
  • Driving sales by actively engaging with customers, promoting featured cheese, and upselling complementary products
  • Answer customer inquiries and address any concerns or issues related to department - communicating accordingly to leadership
  • A safe, happy, full, fresh and clean department
  • Maintain sales floor, preparation, equipment and storage areas that are clean, orderly and meeting company and health department standards at all times
  • Remove products that do not meet store quality standards and dispose of according to store policies
  • Communicate effectively with management regarding inventory levels, sales and any issues within cheese department
  • Ensure accurate pricing and labeling of all items and update/change price tags as needed
  • Adhere to all company safety standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership

Environment:
  • Grocery - approx. 50F - 90F
  • Perishable - approx. 26F - 60F

Schedule:
  • Part time 25 hours a week.
  • Must have a flexible schedule to work weekends evenings and holidays

Experience:
  • Preferred: One (1) years cheese experience/knowledge

Skills:
  • Physical abilities: May be required to lift up to 80-85lbs.; standing, bending, lifting and twisting for up to 90% of your shift; frequently lifting product from various heights including floor level to over your head; Ability to stand or walk at least 10 hours daily; working in various temperature controlled environments; the ability to operate required material handling equipment - getting on and off equipment throughout shift
  • Strong communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with peers and leaders on a daily basis
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to fulfill customer orders in a timely manner; ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Working in a team based environment: Working independently and as a team player to ensure our customers are receiving orders timely and with the highest quality
  • Quality: Maintain integrity and high standards of product handling from all perspectives
  • Safety Culture: Maintain and drive safety policies; driving for accountability of safe practices throughout shift
