POSITION VACANCY POSTING #S-1440
POSITION TITLE: Substitute Bus Operator
LOCATION: Brooke County Schools, to be called as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must hold a valid Commercial Driver's License and a good driving record. A high school diploma, or general equivalency certificate (GED), is required. Achieve a passing score on all WV State Competency Tests. The school bus driver must meet all legal qualifications and responsibilities as set forth in the West Virginia School Transportation Policy and Procedure Manual published by the Division of School Transportation, WV State Department of Education. Ability to understand written and verbal instructions is necessary. All bus drivers must pass a physical examination as prescribed by the State of West Virginia and administered by a licensed physician. Any combination of training and experience which would lead to successful employment as a bus driver is preferred. First Aid training required. Be able to understand and work with all school age children. This job is classified as a medium to heavy work capacity.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. To inspect and check the driving condition of school bus before each run.
  1. To transport students to and from the school daily in prescribed area.
  1. To daily prepare the bus for safe and functioning operation.
  1. To wash and clean the bus weekly, and to sweep the bus daily.
  1. May assist supervisor in scheduling of bus runs, in record keeping and dissemination of information.
  1. Reports the names and addresses of students riding the bus and prepares a monthly passenger log from their list.
  1. Prepares a monthly report for the Director of Transportation summarizing mileage, maintenance, extra-curricular trips, gasoline and oil consumption and passengers transported.

  1. Attend and actively participate in all in-service training classes provided by state and county school officials.
  1. Accept curricular and extra-curricular trips when necessary.
  1. To follow county policy and procedures.
  1. To maintain positive work habits and attitudes.
  1. To perform duties efficiently and productively.
  1. To maintain and/or upgrade skills.
  1. To promote positive public communications.
  1. To maintain a professional appearance.
  1. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Term of Employment: 200 days
Salary: In accordance with the Brooke County Service Personnel Salary Schedule.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the
Brooke County Board of Education Policy on Evaluation of Service Personnel
Salary based on experience and education level per CBOE salary schedule plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.
