Salary: $81,556.00, 20 Hours per Week

The Role
The Physician shall serve as a member of the medical clinic treatment staff in providing coordinated and quality driven primary medical care for addiction and substance related disorders, including the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of such health conditions. All duties are carried out under the supervision of the Medical Director. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.
Responsibilities
What You Will Do
  • Conducts admission and annual physical examinations.
  • Examines and evaluates client medical symptoms and healthcare needs.
  • Provides follow-up on chronic and acute client medical conditions.
  • Performs and supervises an initial comprehensive SUD assessment to determine eligibility for addiction treatment and the effects of addiction on the body
  • Provides substance misuse counseling sessions to address the psychological aspects of opioid addiction and evaluates and offers approved medications for addiction treatment
  • Provides periodic monitoring to ensure abstinence or tapering during treatment.
  • Provides telephone on-call service/availability to respond to client symptoms and answer staff questions regarding clients to whom physician is providing care.
  • Follows generally accepted standards of professional practice and medical ethics.
  • Ensures accurate, timely, and legible completion of required forms, documents and requisitions (i.e. - lab requisitions, agency coding/billing sheets, client disability forms, vocational rehabilitation applications/forms, Medicaid Utilization Threshold override forms, etc.).

Qualifications
Who You Will Be
  • NYSED MD/DO license.
  • Board Certified, preferably in Addiction Medicine or Internal Medicine.
  • Valid DEA registration.
  • BLS Certification.
  • eMEDNY Provider or willingness to enroll as a "Provider" upon hire.
  • Active NPI.
  • Graduate from an accredited Medical School.
  • At least One-Three (1-3) years of prior work experience with substance abuse population, working with the underserved, transient populations and clinical co-morbidities (co-occurring mental health, substance abuse and physical health problems) OR will consider newly graduated MDs with a fellowship in Addiction Medicine.
  • No current investigation by a representative or agent of any governmental body including Federal healthcare programs (Medicaid or Medicare), healthcare organization, or any professional society, due to allegations of substandard client/patient care, medical negligence or unethical behavior; no prior restriction or termination of clinical privileges by the medical staff of any healthcare organization or a state or federal
  • medical license/certification/registration; no Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or General Services Administration (GSA) sanction.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule and be able to provide coverage as needed in response to participant and staff needs.
  • Willingness to provide "on call' 24-hour coverage during evenings and weekends as needed for designated programs.
  • Knowledge of OASAS, OMH, DOHMH, CSAT guidance.
  • Knowledgeable about federal and state regulations governing medical/clinical treatment in substance use treatment programs.
  • Knowledgeable about the treatment needs of a substance abuse population (achieving and maintaining abstinence) and medical and medication management of addiction; including medical detoxification.
  • Knowledgeable about the medical management of HIV, Hepatitis C and other co-occurring medical conditions.
  • Ability to work with a medical and clinical interdisciplinary staff to ensure appropriate management of clients.
  • Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EMR.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, presentation and organizational skills.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Team player and ability to work independently.
