Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Architectural Millwork Engineer to lead the engineering and technical development of high-end custom millwork projects from concept through production. This role is responsible for transforming architectural designs, field dimensions, and client specifications into accurate, production-ready engineering packages that support efficient manufacturing and installation.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience in luxury residential millwork, custom cabinetry, and architectural woodwork, with a deep understanding of fabrication methods, CNC manufacturing, drafting standards, materials, hardware, and joinery. This position also serves as a technical leader, mentoring engineering staff while driving consistency, quality, and continuous improvement across the engineering department.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the engineering of custom architectural millwork projects from design development through fabrication and installation.
  • Produce and review shop drawings, fabrication drawings, bills of materials, cut lists, and production documentation.
  • Interpret architectural drawings, specifications, field measurements, and design intent to develop accurate manufacturing packages.
  • Engineer custom cabinetry, closets, architectural casework, wall paneling, ceilings, countertops, and specialty millwork.
  • Evaluate projects for manufacturability, material selection, hardware integration, joinery, and installation requirements.
  • Collaborate with project managers, designers, estimators, CNC programmers, production teams, and installers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify and resolve design conflicts, dimensional discrepancies, and production challenges before fabrication begins.
  • Support CNC programming, nesting, material optimization, and production planning.
  • Maintain engineering documentation that meets company quality standards and manufacturing requirements.
  • Mentor junior engineers and drafters while establishing engineering best practices and drafting standards.
  • Assist with quality control throughout engineering, production, and installation.
  • Recommend practical engineering solutions for complex custom millwork applications.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in architectural millwork engineering, millwork drafting, or technical design.
  • Extensive experience with luxury residential millwork, custom homes, or high-end architectural interiors.
  • Strong background engineering custom cabinetry, architectural casework, closets, wall paneling, countertops, and specialty millwork.
  • Advanced ability to create production-ready shop drawings and fabrication documentation.
  • Thorough understanding of CNC manufacturing, woodworking equipment, fabrication techniques, and production workflows.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Microvellum, Cabinet Vision, AlphaCAM, Rhino, KCD, or comparable millwork engineering software.
  • Strong understanding of millwork materials, hardware, joinery, construction methods, and installation practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, construction documents, specifications, and field measurements.
  • Experience collaborating with manufacturing teams to resolve technical and production challenges.
  • Previous leadership or mentoring experience is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.

Benefits

  • $110,000-$130,000 annual salary, based on experience.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Paid time off and company holidays.
  • Opportunity to work on luxury residential and custom architectural millwork projects.
  • Senior leadership role with direct influence on engineering standards and manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborative, craftsmanship-focused work environment.
  • Long-term career growth and advancement opportunities.
