POSITION TITLE:Accounting Manager


REPORTS TO:Finance Director


LOCATION: This position is Oregon-based. Currently, most staff work virtually from home; however, they are required to occasionally attend in-person meetings at our offices in Kiln Coworking Space, located at 1120 SE Madison Street, Portland, OR 97214. Employees may use the office space if desired. OCJ's standard work schedule is between 8 AM and 5 PM Pacific, with flexibility possible. Willingness and ability to occasionally work evenings and/or weekends are required.


SALARY RANGE: $80,000 - $105,000

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Oregon Consumer Justice (OCJ) Accounting Manager is a key member of the finance and administration team, providing comprehensive administrative support to the Finance Director and ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, compliance, and smooth day-to-day operation of accounting activities. In addition to serving as OCJ's primary bookkeeper, the Accounting Manager will assist with payroll and benefits administration and general office support.


Essential functions of this position include:


Accounting

  • Accounts Payable
    • process invoices on a weekly basis
    • enter transactions into the accounting system
    • save documentation
    • generate timely payments for all of OCJ's financial obligations
  • Accounts Receivable
    • process deposits upon arrival
    • enter transactions into the accounting system
    • save documentation
  • Recordkeeping - Maintain meticulous records for all accounting transactions
  • Contribute to journal entries, reconciliations, reporting, and other month-end tasks in support of the Finance Director
  • Assist the Finance Director with the annual budget process as needed
  • Assist the Finance Director with annual returns and the audit/review process as needed


Human Resources

  • Assist the Finance Director with HR recordkeeping and projects as assigned
  • Provide administrative support to organizational recruitment processes and assist the Finance Director in the management of recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding portals in OCJ's HRIS system
  • Assist the Finance Director in benefits management, including coordination of annual Open Enrollment, addressing employee benefits questions, and entering benefit changes into carrier platforms and into OCJ's HRIS System
  • Prepare payroll on a semi-monthly basis and create and enter payroll journals into the accounting system
  • Assist in the annual preparation of 1099s for OCJ's contractors


General Support

  • Assist with the day-to-day office management needs
  • Assist with mailing production, including mail merge, printing, collating, and posting
  • Picks up mail & sorts/drops off at office/shreds as needed
  • Assist with day-of-event logistics and support in-person events
  • Assist with IT management and serve as IT backup when the Finance Director is out of the office
  • Support general administrative tasks for all departments as needed


ABOUT YOU:


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or MBA degree in business, finance, accounting, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting and administration


The following are attributes that will contribute to success in this role:

  • Working familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Demonstrated experience in financial and organizational management in the non-profit sector.
  • Demonstrated experience using a financial database (software); prior experience with NetSuite accounting software is a bonus.
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Progressive experience as it relates to the requirement for independent action and initiative, and the ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Comfortable both taking the lead on a project and accepting direction.
  • Creative, curious, and innovative thinker who is able to think outside the box.
  • Excellent computer skills, with emphasis on spreadsheet preparation in Excel and Google Sheets, and general knowledge of Microsoft and Google Suite applications.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changes in the environment.

SALARY & BENEFITS:


  • Salary Range: $80,000 - $105,000. OCJ will review finalist qualifications to determine the most competitive and equitable offer possible within this range
