What is a Weekend 1099 Nurse Practitioner?

A Weekend 1099 Nurse Practitioner is a licensed nurse practitioner who works primarily on weekends as an independent contractor rather than a traditional employee. The term '1099' refers to the IRS tax form used for independent contractors, meaning these professionals manage their own taxes and may have flexible schedules. Weekend 1099 Nurse Practitioners often provide patient care in clinics, hospitals, or telehealth settings, filling in staffing gaps during weekends or off-hours. This role offers flexibility and potentially higher pay rates, but it also means fewer employment benefits compared to salaried positions.

What are some unique challenges and rewards of working as a Weekend 1099 Nurse Practitioner?

As a Weekend 1099 Nurse Practitioner, you'll often encounter fast-paced environments with a higher patient volume and more acute cases, since many clinics and facilities operate with reduced staff on weekends. This role requires adaptability, strong independent decision-making, and excellent time management, as support resources may be limited compared to weekday shifts. However, the position offers flexibility, autonomy, and the opportunity to make a significant impact during critical times. It's also a great way to gain diverse clinical experience and build professional relationships with a variety of healthcare teams.
