Job description

WKBN/WYTV/WYFX is seeking an experienced, driven Senior MultiMedia Journalist who knows how to own a beat, build sources, and deliver compelling local journalism every day. This is a role for a proven storyteller who understands the responsibility of being a trusted voice in the community - and who leads by example in a fastpaced, competitive newsroom.

The ideal candidate is a newsroom veteran who thrives on enterprise reporting, excels at developing contacts, and consistently produces accurate, engaging content across broadcast and digital platforms. This journalist will also help guide, mentor, and elevate a growing team of earlycareer MMJs.

If you're passionate about local news, committed to strong journalism, and ready to help shape the next generation of storytellers, we want to meet you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pitch, develop, and execute original enterprise stories that reflect the needs and interests of the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys
  • Build and maintain strong community contacts, consistently breaking stories and advancing coverage
  • Report, shoot, write, edit, and present stories for broadcast, digital, and streaming platforms
  • Set the standard for accuracy, fairness, and ethical journalism
  • Provide leadership within the MMJ team by modeling best practices in reporting, newsgathering, and newsroom communication
  • Offer guidance, feedback, and informal coaching to earlycareer journalists
  • Collaborate with producers, assignment editors, and digital staff to enhance daily coverage
  • Respond quickly to breaking news and contribute to continuous coverage across platforms
  • Represent the station professionally at community events, news conferences, and in daily interactions with the public

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience in a television newsroom
  • Proven ability to cultivate sources and generate exclusive, enterprisedriven content
  • Strong shooting and editing skills; proficiency with newsroom and field technology
  • Excellent writing, storytelling, and live reporting abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments under tight deadlines
  • A collaborative mindset and a desire to help develop younger journalists
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to lead by example in a newsroom that produces 11 hours of live news each weekday
  • A collaborative environment committed to strong journalism and community service
  • Growth opportunities across broadcast, digital, and streaming platforms

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Communication/Journalism or related degree (equivalent years of experience may substitute for education); plus (3) years experience as an MMJ.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements

  • Position requires the operation of camera, camera equipment, computer and editing machine, and transport of equipment weighing up to 60 lbs. High stress environment with deadline pressures. Travel will be required on a regular basis. Work may be performed in extreme outdoor temperatures. A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required. Position requires work on holidays, some weekends.
