Accounting Clerk

Location: Houston, TX

Pay Rate: Starting at $23.00/hour (based on experience)

Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Dean's Professional Services is actively seeking an Accounting Clerk to join a growing accounting team in Houston, Texas. This weekday opportunity offers stability, competitive pay, and hands-on experience supporting daily accounting operations within a professional, compliance-focused environment. This role is ideal for an early-career accounting professional looking to grow their skills in Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and general accounting functions.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post basic journal entries
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
  • Reconcile general ledger and balance sheet accounts
  • Maintain accurate Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable records
  • Process high volumes of AP/AR transactions accurately and efficiently
  • Analyze variances and research discrepancies
  • Communicate with vendors and clients regarding invoices, payments, and account balances
  • Process payments in a timely manner and ensure proper documentation
  • Respond promptly to internal and external information requests
  • Support preparation of financial statements and management reports
  • Assist with internal and external audits and respond to auditor requests
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company accounting policies
  • Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as needed

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of accounting experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • 1-2 years of hands-on QuickBooks experience (required)
  • High attention to detail with strong accuracy skills
  • Ability to multitask, adjust priorities, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent communication, time-management, and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business with an emphasis in Accounting (preferred)
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks
