Job description

Position: Technical Marketing Manager or Sr. Technical Marketing Manager

Position Type: Technical Marketing

Experience: Master's + 6 years relevant experience; or Bachelor's + 8 years relevant experience. Experience in biotech and a start-up environment are highly desirable.

Position Summary

Watchmaker is inviting applications for the full-time, remote position of Technical Marketing Manager. The successful candidate will thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced working environment and contribute directly to our company culture and success.

This position partners with Product Management, Applications, Marketing Communications, and Commercial teams to translate scientific innovation into successful product launches and sustained commercial growth. This role combines scientific expertise, strategic marketing, and customer engagement to guide products through commercialization to on-market success by shaping go-to-market strategy, generating technical evidence, managing customer collaborations, and creating compelling scientific content. 

Responsibilities

Product Commercialization and Lifecycle Marketing

  • Partner with Product Management to develop and execute commercialization and go-to-market strategies for new and existing products.
  • Contribute to product positioning, messaging, value proposition development, launch planning, and competitive differentiation.
  • Develop sales enablement materials, launch collateral, presentations, FAQs, and customer-facing resources that support commercial success.
  • Support lifecycle marketing initiatives for existing products by identifying new applications and messaging opportunities.

Technical Strategy and Scientific Collaboration

  • Partner with the Applications team to develop experimental plans that address customer questions and generate commercially relevant data.
  • Contribute to experimental design, prioritization, data interpretation, and study recommendations with customer use cases and market needs in mind.
  • Identify evidence gaps and recommend studies needed to strengthen product positioning and support commercialization.
  • Manage external customer collaborations from project planning through final deliverables, including application notes, posters, publications, webinars, and presentations.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of next-generation sequencing technologies, applications, competitive products, and emerging market trends.

Technical Content and Marketing Execution

  • Translate complex scientific concepts into clear, compelling technical content for diverse scientific and commercial audiences.
  • Develop application notes, technical briefs, white papers, brochures, presentations, web content, blogs, videos, email campaigns, advertisements, and scientific posters.
  • Partner with Marketing Communications and Digital Marketing to develop campaign messaging, website content, paid advertising, SEO content, digital campaigns, and eCommerce initiatives.
  • Ensure scientific accuracy, consistency, and technical rigor across all customer-facing marketing materials.
  • Support conference strategy by developing presentations, workshops, posters, booth messaging, outreach campaigns, and other technical marketing deliverables.
  • Identify opportunities to improve technical marketing processes, tools, and content to enhance effectiveness.

Skills and Requirements

The following skills and experience are requirements for the position:

  • Technical knowledge of next-generation sequencing and associated genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenomic applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear, compelling technical content for both scientific and commercial audiences. 
  • Ability to develop technical marketing strategies that align customer needs with product positioning and commercial objectives. 
  • Experience contributing to experimental design, data interpretation, and technical validation with customer applications and marketing goals in mind.
  • Strong scientific writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with experience developing application notes, technical briefs, presentations, white papers, and other customer-facing content. 
  • Experience managing scientific collaborations with external customers, key opinion leaders, or strategic partners from project planning through final deliverables. 
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize technical data into differentiated product messaging, sales enablement materials, and marketing assets.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of quality and meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
  • High level of initiative, scientific curiosity, and problem-solving ability in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop messaging that accurately reflects a brand's voice while maintaining scientific rigor.

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree with 6 years relevant experience
  • Bachelor's degree with 8 years relevant experience 
  • Experience in biotech and a start-up environment are highly desirable.

Compensation

The base compensation for the Technical Marketing Manager role starts at $100,000 - $120,000 + bonus + equity; actual pay will be adjusted based on skills and experience. Employees are eligible for Flexible Time Off, Holidays, employer covers 75% of base medical plan with buy-up options, EAP (employee assistance program), employer paid dental, employer paid vision, employer paid $25,000 life/AD&D policy, paid parental leave, and a 401(k) retirement plan with a 4% match.
