Charles R. Drew University is located in the Watts-Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. CDU was founded to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under-represented students.
CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi, and is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods.

Summary

The Web Strategy Manager leads the strategic direction, user experience, content quality, and performance optimization of the University’s digital ecosystem. The Web Strategy Manager is responsible for ensuring the University’s website and related digital platforms are user-centered, accessible, data-informed, and aligned with institutional priorities including enrollment, advancement, and reputation.

The Web Strategy Manager combines expertise in UX, content strategy, copywriting, analytics, design, and continuous improvement to deliver a high-performing, cohesive, and consistent web presence that serves prospective students, current students, and external audiences as its primary audiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Leads the development and execution of a comprehensive web strategy aligned with institutional goals
  • Works with Director of Marketing and Communication to establish and maintain web governance standards, including content workflows, publishing protocols, and brand consistency
  • Leads web content strategy, including copy and multimedia, ensuring clarity, consistency, and alignment with CDU’s voice
  • Writes, edits, and optimizes high-impact, results-driven web copy with focus on admissions pages, academic program pages, and campaigns
  • Designs and continuously improves user journeys for key audiences including prospective students, applicants, donors, and community members
  • Optimizes site navigation, structure, and page templates to enhance usability and engagement
  • Conducts SEO and AI improvements and content audits for continuous website optimization
  • Conducts usability testing and accessibility audits to inform site improvements
  • Monitors and analyzes website performance using tools such as Google Analytics, Semrush, and heat maps
  • Translates data into actionable insights to improve engagement, conversion rates, and user experience
  • Develop and report on key performance indicators tied to enrollment, awareness, and digital engagement goals
  • Manages WordPress functionality, enhancements, and integration; collaborates with IT and external vendors as needed
  • Ensures accessibility standards, privacy regulations, and security best practices
  • Serves as the front-line technician for the University website – diagnosing and resolving server crashes, outages, connection failures, performance issues, and critical website incidents. Oversees access controls, CMS and plugin updates, backups, uptime monitoring, and system stability.
  • Creates and maintains Jotform forms and workflows to ensure seamless WordPress integration

EDUCATION

EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum three years of experience in web strategy, digital marketing, or content management
  • Experience in higher education or mission-driven organizations strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex websites, preferably in higher education or similarly complex organizations
  • Strong understanding of UX/UY principles, content strategy, and digital marketing best practices
  • Expert knowledge of WordPress CMS including development of modules and themes; proficiency with Drupal CMS a plus
  • Knowledge of hosting platforms such as Pantheon, GoDadddy, and cPanel
  • Knowledge of SEO and AI principles and WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards
  • Understanding of web analytics tools including Google Analytics, Semrush, and Crazy Egg and demonstrated ability in analyzing metrics
