Web Rater information

What are Web Raters?

Web Raters are professionals who evaluate and assess the quality and relevance of web content, search engine results, advertisements, or social media feeds. They follow specific guidelines to determine how well online information meets user needs and search intent. Web Raters help improve algorithms used by search engines and tech companies to deliver better results to users. This role often requires strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and familiarity with internet culture.

What are some common challenges Web Raters face when evaluating online content, and how can they address them?

Web Raters often encounter content that is ambiguous or lacks clear context, making it challenging to apply evaluation guidelines consistently. To overcome this, it's important to carefully review all provided instructions, use judgment while adhering to established criteria, and seek clarification from supervisors or team forums when in doubt. Regularly updating oneself with changes in guidelines and participating in team discussions can also help ensure accurate and consistent ratings. Being detail-oriented and open to feedback will further enhance performance in this role.

What is the difference between Web Rater vs Content Moderator?

AspectWeb RaterContent Moderator
Required CredentialsHigh school diploma or equivalent; sometimes familiarity with web contentHigh school diploma; training on content policies
Work EnvironmentRemote, flexible hours; internet-based tasksRemote or on-site; monitoring and reviewing user-generated content
Industry UsageUsed by tech companies for quality assurance of web contentEmployed by social media platforms, forums, and online communities

Web Raters and Content Moderators both review online content, but Web Raters typically evaluate search engine results or web content quality, while Content Moderators focus on monitoring and removing inappropriate user-generated content. Both roles require similar skills and are often remote, but their specific tasks and employer focus differ.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Web Rater, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Web Rater, you need strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and proficiency in internet research, typically with at least a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with web browsers, search engines, and proprietary rating platforms is often required, alongside passing a qualification exam provided by employers. Excellent time management, communication, and self-motivation are valuable soft skills for working independently and meeting productivity targets. These skills ensure that web raters can accurately evaluate search engine results and provide high-quality feedback to improve online content relevance.

Job description

Senior Software Engineer

WME is building the next generation of internal platforms that power one of the world's leading entertainment companies.

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who enjoys solving hard problems, writing clean and maintainable code, and building systems that become foundational to how an organization operates. The software we build helps agents and teams manage relationships, deals, and opportunities across the global entertainment industry.

You'll partner closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to build thoughtful, scalable systems that support critical business workflows. You'll take ownership of features and services end-to-end, contribute to architectural decisions, and help raise the technical bar across the team.

We're also investing heavily in AI-assisted development, and engineers on this team actively use modern AI tools and workflows to improve development velocity and product quality. We're building this engineering organization largely from the ground up, so we're looking for engineers who enjoy scrappy environments, are comfortable navigating ambiguity, and want to help shape how a team operates.

Example Problems You Might Work On
  • Building features that capture and connect relationships across the entertainment industry

  • Implementing modern CRM workflows that replace fragmented legacy tools and spreadsheets

  • Developing AI-powered features that surface insights from operational data

  • Building and maintaining APIs and services that support complex deal and workflow management

  • Migrating legacy applications into modern web-based systems

What You'll Do
  • Design and build scalable web applications and APIs using React, TypeScript, and Next.js

  • Develop and maintain Node.js backend with REST, gRPC, and GraphQL APIs

  • Contribute to architectural decisions across frontend and backend systems

  • Partner closely with product managers and designers to deliver thoughtful solutions

  • Translate operational needs into practical technical solutions

  • Participate in and improve CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling

  • Support and mentor new career engineers on the team

What We're Looking For
  • Solid software engineering experience, typically 5+ years

  • Strong full-stack development experience building modern web applications

  • Proficiency in React, TypeScript, and Next.js

  • Backend experience with Node.js, building services and APIs

  • Experience designing and working with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL

  • Experience working with cloud infrastructure (AWS or Azure preferred)

  • Familiarity with containerized workloads using Docker (Kubernetes a plus)

  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code concepts; experience with Terraform a plus

  • Comfort working with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar)

  • Strong product instincts and collaborative mindset

  • Comfortable working in environments where systems and processes are still evolving

How We Build
  • Ship practical software that solves real problems

  • Favor simple, maintainable architectures

  • Work closely across engineering, product, and design

  • Use modern cloud infrastructure (AWS / Azure), Terraform, and containerized deployments

  • Maintain automated CI/CD pipelines to keep shipping fast and safe

  • Leverage AI-assisted development across the engineering workflow

AI-First Engineering

AI tools are part of our everyday engineering workflow. We encourage engineers to use modern AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, testing, debugging, and system design. We're also actively exploring how AI can enhance the systems we build.
