Job description

Overview:
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for ensuring that IT Software Engineering and QA teams remain aligned to the approved roadmap and business priorities established by the Product Owner and Divisional Leaders.

This role serves as the execution leader who translates strategic priorities into structured delivery plans, sprint focus, and measurable outcomes. The Senior Project Manager drives discipline, clarity, and accountability across the software development lifecycle to ensure the organization consistently delivers on its commitments.

While experienced in Agile sprint environments, this role operates effectively within a hybrid delivery model - balancing structured project management rigor with iterative development practices.

The primary objective: maintain focus, improve execution quality, and ensure delivery predictability.

Key Responsibilities:
Roadmap Alignment & Execution
* Ensure Software Engineering and QA efforts are fully aligned with the approved roadmap and divisional priorities.
* Translate roadmap initiatives into clear milestones, sprint plans, and execution timelines.
* Prevent scope drift and unplanned work that distracts from strategic objectives.
* Maintain transparency around progress, capacity, and delivery risks.
* Reinforce focus on the highest-value initiatives.
Sprint & Delivery Management
* Facilitate sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives where appropriate.
* Ensure backlog readiness and priority alignment with the Product Owner.
* Track delivery metrics including velocity, milestone adherence, and schedule variance.
* Improve predictability and reduce missed commitments.
* Coordinate release planning across engineering and QA.
Accountability & Execution Discipline
* Hold teams accountable to agreed commitments and timelines.
* Track action items and ensure follow-through.
* Identify risks early and implement mitigation strategies.
* Escalate issues when necessary to maintain delivery momentum.
* Reduce rework and inefficiencies through structured planning and oversight.

Cross-Functional Coordination
* Serve as the central coordination point between Engineering, QA, Product Owners, Divisional Leaders, and IT Leadership.
* Communicate delivery status in clear business terms.
* Align sprint execution with broader program and divisional milestones.
* Manage cross-team dependencies and competing priorities.

Hybrid Delivery Model Leadership
* Operate comfortably in both Agile and structured project environments.
* Understand when iterative sprint execution is appropriate and when milestone-driven planning is required.
* Support quarterly and annual planning cycles.
* Ensure documentation and governance standards are met where necessary.

Required Qualifications
* 7+ years of project management experience, including 3+ years supporting software development teams.
* Experience working in Agile sprint-based environments.
* Strong understanding of traditional project management principles (scope, schedule, risk, dependency management).
* Proven ability to improve focus and delivery accountability within technical teams.
* Experience working with Product Owners and business stakeholders to align priorities.

Leadership Profile
* Execution-focused and highly organized.
* Balances structure with flexibility.
* Calm and steady under delivery pressure.
* Collaborative partner to Product and Divisional leaders.
* Trusted by Engineering and QA teams for clarity and fairness.
* Committed to improving team effectiveness and delivery reliability.
