What is a web manager?

A web manager is responsible for maintaining, designing, and developing a business website, based on the field or specifications set by a client. Your duties include monitoring, assessing, and reporting on online content performance, ensuring a website functions and software is up-to-date, and handling a range of online marketing projects from search engine optimization to social media practices. You may also develop content and monitor web traffic. Since you oversee staff, communication skills are vital. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and at least five years of proven on-the-job experience for this career.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a web manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Web Manager, you need expertise in website management, content strategy, SEO, and analytics, often supported by a degree in web design, computer science, or related fields. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, Google Analytics, and basic HTML/CSS is typically required. Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills set outstanding Web Managers apart. These abilities are crucial for ensuring optimal website performance, user experience, and alignment with business objectives.

What are the main challenges a web manager faces when coordinating with cross-functional teams?

Web Managers often collaborate with marketing, IT, design, and content teams to ensure the website aligns with business goals and user needs. One common challenge is balancing differing priorities and timelines from each department, which requires strong communication and project management skills. Additionally, translating technical requirements for non-technical stakeholders and ensuring consistent branding across all web assets can be demanding. Successful Web Managers are proactive in setting clear expectations, facilitating regular meetings, and fostering an environment of open feedback.

Job description

Associate Director, Product Management, UpToDate Core Experience & Access

The Role

Make the core UpToDate experience easy to access, use, and evolve for clinicians, care teams, and enterprise customers.

At Wolters Kluwer Health, the UpToDate suite supports millions of clinical decisions every day. As customer expectations, enterprise access models, clinical workflows, and digital product experiences continue to evolve, we are focused on delivering intuitive, reliable, and customer‑ready experiences across core UpToDate web and mobile products.

As Associate Director, Product Management, UpToDate Core Experience & Access, you will own product strategy and execution for a meaningful area of the core UpToDate experience. This includes improving registration, login, access, identity, and entitlement experiences; advancing web and mobile product improvements; managing important customer, accessibility, operational, and roadmap priorities; and helping shape how the core UpToDate experience evolves over time.

This is a senior individual contributor role for a product leader who can operate across user experience, technical systems, enterprise customer needs, and product strategy. You will partner closely with engineering, UX, architecture, security, analytics, customer‑facing, commercial, implementation, and product leadership teams to define priorities, make tradeoffs, and deliver measurable improvements for users and customers.

What You'll Do
  • Own product strategy, roadmap priorities, and measurable outcomes for core UpToDate experience and access‑related capabilities.
  • Develop a deep understanding of how clinicians, care teams, administrators, and enterprise customers access and use UpToDate across web and mobile experiences.
  • Identify opportunities to improve registration, login, authentication, SSO, account, identity, and entitlement workflows.
  • Partner with engineering, architecture, security, implementation, and customer‑facing teams to support scalable, customer‑ready approaches to access, account, identity, and entitlement experiences.
  • Lead discovery and prioritization for core product improvements that enhance usability, accessibility, reliability, customer readiness, and overall product quality.
  • Manage roadmap priorities that balance product evolution with important customer requests, accessibility needs, operational improvements, and platform dependencies.
  • Help shape consistent, intuitive product experiences across core UpToDate web and mobile platforms.
  • Translate complex user, customer, technical, and business needs into clear product requirements, decision frameworks, roadmap priorities, and success metrics.
  • Partner with UX, analytics, engineering, commercial, customer success, implementation, support, and other product teams from discovery through launch and iteration.
  • Use customer conversations, product analytics, stakeholder input, experimentation, and post‑launch feedback to inform product direction and measure impact.
  • Make product decisions that balance user value, customer needs, technical feasibility, implementation complexity, accessibility, security, cost, risk, and business impact.
  • Communicate product priorities, rationale, risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs clearly across cross‑functional teams and leadership.
What You'll Bring
  • 7+ years of product management experience in healthcare, enterprise SaaS, B2B software, workflow products, platform products, professional‑information products, or other complex digital product environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to own a meaningful product area, set roadmap priorities, and deliver measurable outcomes across multiple capabilities or workstreams.
  • Strong product discovery and execution skills, including customer research, requirements definition, prioritization, roadmap development, experimentation, launch planning, and metrics‑driven decision‑making.
  • Experience translating complex user, customer, technical, operational, and business needs into practical product plans and intuitive product experiences.
  • Technical fluency with product areas that involve user access, account experience, authentication, identity, permissions, entitlements, enterprise administration, or implementation complexity.
  • Ability to partner effectively with engineering, UX, architecture, security, analytics, commercial, implementation, customer success, support, and product leadership teams.
  • Strong judgment in balancing strategic product opportunities with customer, accessibility, operational, and technical priorities.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder‑management, analytical thinking, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to operate in ambiguity, connect related workstreams into a coherent product direction, and drive alignment in a complex cross‑functional environment.
Preferred Background
  • Experience with SSO, authentication, identity management, user account models, entitlements, permissions, registration, login, or enterprise access workflows.
  • Experience with healthcare technology, clinical decision support, regulated environments, accessibility requirements, or enterprise healthcare customers.
  • Experience improving web and mobile product experiences used by professional or enterprise users.
  • Experience modernizing established product experiences or evolving complex products across multiple platforms.
  • Experience working on products that require close coordination across product, platform, security, architecture, implementation, customer‑facing, and commercial teams.
  • Familiarity with clinical workflows, healthcare content, point‑of‑care tools, or professional‑information products.
What Success Looks Like
  • Users can access UpToDate with minimal friction across registration, login, SSO, identity, and entitlement experiences.
  • Core UpToDate web and mobile experiences become more usable, accessible, reliable, and aligned with customer and user needs.
  • Product teams have a clearer roadmap for improving access, account experience, core product quality, and platform experience consistency.
  • Customer, accessibility, and operational product needs are prioritized and delivered with clarity, discipline, and measurable impact.
  • Cross‑functional teams have clear priorities, decision rationale, success metrics, and shared understanding of tradeoffs, risks, and dependencies.
  • Product decisions balance user value, clinical trust, enterprise customer needs, technical feasibility, implementation complexity, security, accessibility, and business impact.
