What is a web manager?

A web manager is responsible for maintaining, designing, and developing a business website, based on the field or specifications set by a client. Your duties include monitoring, assessing, and reporting on online content performance, ensuring a website functions and software is up-to-date, and handling a range of online marketing projects from search engine optimization to social media practices. You may also develop content and monitor web traffic. Since you oversee staff, communication skills are vital. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and at least five years of proven on-the-job experience for this career.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a web manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Web Manager, you need expertise in website management, content strategy, SEO, and analytics, often supported by a degree in web design, computer science, or related fields. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, Google Analytics, and basic HTML/CSS is typically required. Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills set outstanding Web Managers apart. These abilities are crucial for ensuring optimal website performance, user experience, and alignment with business objectives.

What are the main challenges a web manager faces when coordinating with cross-functional teams?

Web Managers often collaborate with marketing, IT, design, and content teams to ensure the website aligns with business goals and user needs. One common challenge is balancing differing priorities and timelines from each department, which requires strong communication and project management skills. Additionally, translating technical requirements for non-technical stakeholders and ensuring consistent branding across all web assets can be demanding. Successful Web Managers are proactive in setting clear expectations, facilitating regular meetings, and fostering an environment of open feedback.

Job description

About the Role

Chime is hiring a Principal, Web Platform and Experience Manager to own the next chapter of Chime.com. You'll connect Marketing, Product, and Engineering to deliver a scalable, measurable, and personalized web ecosystem — combining CMS architecture, technical performance, and user-centered design to build a high-speed, high-trust growth engine for acquisition and brand.

As a senior leader, you'll drive the evolution of our site architecture, performance infrastructure, and content platform, with direct impact across SEO, experimentation, and brand storytelling.

The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $173,000 and up to $240,000. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on your location, skills, qualifications, and experience.

In this role, you can expect to
  • Own the 12–24 month roadmap for our headless CMS, reusable components, and Core Web Vitals improvements
  • Leverage our Contentful platform to accelerate page velocity, experimentation, and personalization across Chime.com
  • Set and own OKRs for Chime.com as a growth channel, with recurring reporting to senior leadership
  • Drive discovery for new platform capabilities, including opportunity sizing and requirements definition ahead of Engineering handoff
  • Own site health reporting — Core Web Vitals, performance, and conversion metrics — in partnership with Analytics
  • Partner with SEO/AEO and Content Strategy to ensure templates meet search best practices — schema, internal linking, and metadata
  • Build a scalable operating model for cross-functional page launches and site updates
  • Enable experimentation across the platform in support of CRO testing needs
To thrive in this role, you have
  • 8+ years owning large-scale or headless CMS platforms — Contentful, Storyblok, Sanity, or equivalent
  • Strong command of Core Web Vitals, caching strategies, and performance-tuning techniques
  • Hands‑on experience with technical SEO, structured data, and web accessibility standards
  • Proven ability to write PRDs, define acceptance criteria, and drive sprint execution with engineering teams
  • Experience making roadmap trade‑off decisions under resource constraints with a clear bias toward high‑impact work
  • Fluent in GA4, Looker, and Google Search Console with a track record of partnering with data teams on reporting
  • Skilled at translating technical complexity for non‑technical stakeholders across Marketing, Product, and Leadership
What we offer for our full-time, regular employees
  • Our in-office work policy is designed to keep you connected - with four days a week in the office and Fridays from home for those near one of our offices, plus team and company‑wide events depending on location. Whether you’re coming in regularly or are part of our fully remote program, you’ll stay engaged with your work and teammates.
  • In‑office perks including backup child, elder, and/or pet care, plus a subsidized commuter benefit to support your regular commute
  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • 401k match plus great medical, dental, vision, life, and disability benefits
  • Generous vacation policy and company‑wide Chime Days, bonus company‑wide paid days off
  • 1% of your time off to support local community organizations of your choice
  • Annual wellness stipend to use towards eligible wellness related expenses
  • Up to 24 weeks of paid parental leave for birthing parents and 12 weeks of paid parental leave for non‑birthing parents
  • Access to Maven, a family planning tool, with $15k lifetime reimbursement for egg freezing, fertility treatments, adoption, and more.
  • In‑person and virtual events to connect with your fellow Chimers—think cooking classes, guided meditations, music festivals, mixology classes, paint nights, etc., and delicious snack boxes, too!
  • A challenging and fulfilling opportunity to join one of the most experienced teams in FinTech and help millions unlock financial progress

We know that great work can’t be done without a diverse team and inclusive environment. That’s why we specifically look for individuals of varying strengths, skills, backgrounds, and ideas to join our team. We believe this gives us a competitive advantage to better serve our members and helps us all grow as Chimers and individuals.
