Job description

Title of Position: Casual Seasonal Communications and Digital Media Support Specialist

Reports to: Chief of Staff

Description of Position: The Communications and Digital Media Support Specialist will provide communications and digital media support to the Delaware Department of Education's Communications Team. The position supports website management, digital communications, content production, social media, and communications project coordination. This role helps expand team capacity by managing routine production and publishing functions while supporting agency communications priorities.

Major Responsibilities Include:

Website and Digital Content

-Update and maintain agency webpages and website content.

-Manage website service requests and content updates.

-Assist with website quality assurance, accessibility reviews, and content organization.

-Support large-scale website update projects and special initiatives.

Content Production

-Create graphics for web, social media, presentations, and communications materials.

-Produce and edit short-form videos for social media and digital communications.

-Format and publish communications materials across multiple platforms.

-Maintain digital assets, photo libraries, and multimedia resources.

          Communications Support

-Assist with social media content development and scheduling.

-Support communications campaigns and public information initiatives.

-Track communications deadlines and project deliverables.

-Maintain communications planning documents and project tracking systems.

-Prepare drafts, templates, and supporting materials for communications products.

          Project Coordination

-Monitor communications workflows and timelines.

-Coordinate with program offices to gather content and materials.

-Support communications meetings and follow-up activities.

-Assist with data collection and reporting related to communications efforts.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Digital Media, Multimedia Production, Graphic Design, English, or a closely related field.

Experience:

-One to three years of professional experience in communications, public relations, marketing, digital media, web content management, graphic design, journalism, or related work.

-Experience managing website content through the WordPress or similiar content management system (CMS).

-Experience applying Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards to web content.

-Experience creating digital graphics and social media content.

-Experience with video editing and multimedia production.

-Experience supporting communications projects with multiple deadlines and stakeholders.

-Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills.

Skills:

-Experience managing and updating website content using WordPress or similar software. 

-Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA and experience applying accessibility standards to web content.

-Strong written and verbal communication skills.

-Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

-Knowledge of social media platforms and digital communications practices.

-Ability to learn new software platforms and technology tools quickly.

-Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common communications software.

-Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team.

Salary:

Salary Range: $43.36 to $62.82 per hour. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's education and experience in accordance with the Department of Education's compensation policy. Direct deposit of payroll checks is a condition of state employment, and employees are paid on a lag pay schedule with the first payment made after approximately one month of employment.

Notes:

Casual seasonal employment is offered to assist agencies on a temporary basis and the duration of employment is determined by the needs of the agency, available funding and job performance. This position can work up to 29.5 hours per week and has a flexible work schedule based on operational needs. A hybrid work environment is available with some in-office presence required for team meetings, collaboration, and training.
