Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Applications & Data, the Business & Web Applications Developer is responsible for the design, development, implementation and support of business, web, and AI-based applications and initiatives in support of the University's academic, administrative, and marketing functions. In collaboration with Marketing and Communications, the Business & Web Applications Developer enables the evolution of the University's web presence, appropriately incorporating social media, mobile technologies, content delivery and content management tools and practices, technical security, authentication, scalability and performance for all web-based systems and services. In collaboration with other members of the Enterprise Applications Team, the Business & Web Applications Developer will foster innovation through the adoption of AI and automation technologies and will champion effective, secure, and accessible digital experiences, while streamlining data workflows between enterprise systems.
*This is a staff bargaining unit position.
Essential Functions
  • Oversee development, administration, and support of the university website (naz.edu), web and mobile applications, tools and digital platforms.
  • Working closely with other members of the Enterprise Applications Team in ITS, collaborate on the design and implementation of custom data integrations between core systems (e.g., Colleague, Slate, PowerFAIDS) using iPaaS, scripting languages (Python, Javascript, PowerShell, etc.), APIs, SQL, and SFTP.
  • Design and implement AI-enabled tools and services (e.g., chatbots, automation scripts, analytics tools) using platforms such as OpenAI, Python, and other APIs.
  • Monitor integration and web platform performance, troubleshooting issues and optimizing reliability and speed.
  • Partner with information security and data stewards to apply appropriate controls, permissions, and data-handling practices.
  • Collaborate with IT leadership, Marketing & Communications, and other departments to identify opportunities for digital innovation and improved user experiences while ensuring compliance with accessibility standards.
  • Translate business requirements from customers into functional application designs, workflows, forms, data structures, and business rules.
  • Assist in implementation of security and data protection settings, enforcing security procedures and helping to identify and investigate security risks.
  • Configure and manage SSO/SAML connectivity between the University's identity management tools and enterprise systems.
  • Ensure all integration practices align with compliance standards (e.g., FERPA, GDPR, PCI-DSS) and participate in data governance efforts.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for systems architecture, integrations, and AI solutions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in web development, systems integration, or related fields.
  • Experience with web and mobile application frameworks and technology stacks (e.g., React, Django, PostgreSQL, Concrete5).
  • Knowledge of web standards, limitations, platform and browser capability and best practices for coding and workflow.
  • Understanding of client-server architecture, web scaling & performance, understanding of physical and virtual server infrastructure.
  • Technical skills and hands-on knowledge for development setup, troubleshooting, maintenance, monitoring and management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in scripting languages (Python, JavaScript, PowerShell, etc.).
  • Experience with data integration platforms and techniques (e.g., iPaaS, SQL, SFTP).
  • Familiarity with AI technologies and frameworks (e.g., OpenAI, LLM APIs).
  • Ability to effectively partner with a broad range of customers to design and deliver effective technology solutions in a manner which is both cost-effective and timely.
