Job description

Overview

We are is seeking qualified Weather Forecasters to produce find-scale, highly accurate weather forecast products, digital data fields, and services satisfying requirements to access all available observations, satellite, radar, lightning, analysis and forecast data. Weather Forecasters are responsible for base or post forecasting, developing weather products, briefing transient aircrews, and providing weather warnings for all their geographical units. Weather Forecasters will use automated observing systems, collaborate with supported weather units, monitor the weather in their entire area of responsibility, and ensure the exchange of weather information. Weather Forecaster work schedules involve shift work.

Responsibilities
  • Understand standard operational weather requirements and processes and assist Government personnel at the 732 OG to train personnel on the development of unique weather products that directly support operations in the areas of responsibility
  • Use proper procedures for providing weather services and oversee trainees performing the mission in support of USCENTCOM Overseas Contingency Operations missions by providing tailored meteorological products and services for military operations
  • Analyze climatic regimes, geography, terrain, weather system characteristics, centralized weather products, and indigenous surface and upper air reports to forecast weather conditions for military installations
  • Produce weather analyses and forecasts for aircrews, ground forces, planners, and senior leaders at DoD installations
  • Provide decision-cycle weather input to shape, plan, and execute Air Force, Army, Guard, Reserve and combatant command operations
  • Generate mission briefings and weather graphics products in support of operations and training
  • Provide detailed mission execution forecasts for takeoff, en route, destinations, and air refueling tracks worldwide
  • Provide technical guidance to weather forecasters and follow operational guidance under high stress conditions associated with severe weather
  • Oversee meteorological operations and provide technical oversight and recommend guidance to weather forecasters
  • Provide recommendations in order for the Government to make decisions and to select a course of action under high stress conditions associated with severe weather and emergency situations
  • Develop weather warnings, watches, and advisories to protect assets
  • Provide weather observations, forecasts, advisories, and warnings to Air Force and Army senior staff officers and mission commanders to make go/no go decisions for impending air and ground operations
  • Modify forecasts developed by other activities to provide information on exact conditions expected to be encountered by the aircraft for projected timeframe for the area of operations
  • Develop, analyze, and evaluate security measures to ensure actions meet mission requirements (COMSEC/OPSEC/COMPUSEC)
  • Adjust security procedures to correct deficiencies and ensure classified information is not released to unauthorized personnel
Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a certified weather forecaster supporting DoD operations 
  • Ability to work independently in an operational environment
  • Knowledge of a full range of security principles, concepts, practices, products and services; methods for evaluating risk and vulnerability; implementing mitigating improvement; and disseminating security procedures/processes
  • Knowledge in military meteorology, project management, IT-related analyses, and communications supporting Air Force and/or Army operations
  • Knowledge of the AFW Career Field Education and Training Plan (CFETP), skill-level training requirements and specialty requirements
  • Knowledge with the Air Force Weather Knowledge Center's advanced distributed learning
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office products, especially Word, PowerPoint, Excel Spreadsheets, and giving oral presentations
  • Ts/SCI clearance
