Job description

Position Summary

The Wealth Advisor serves as a primary relationship manager and planning-oriented fiduciary advisor within Croghan Colonial Bank's Wealth Management and Trust Department. The advisor leads assigned client relationships, understands each client's goals and family circumstances, coordinates investment, planning, fiduciary, banking, tax, legal, and operational resources, and ensures that commitments are executed. The role is similar in many respects to a planning-centric RIA wealth advisor, but it operates within a bank trust environment using Croghan's fiduciary and trust capabilities. This is not a broker-dealer producer role, and securities licensing is not required for the core position unless Croghan separately assigns licensed activities through approved channels.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager and relationship quarterback for an assigned group of Wealth Management and Trust Department clients.
  • Develop a documented understanding of each client's goals, family dynamics, liquidity needs, risk tolerance, estate-planning structure, investment objectives, banking relationships, service expectations, outside advisors, and key decision makers.
  • Lead periodic client reviews, planning discussions, and service meetings, including agenda preparation, internal coordination, decision documentation, follow-up assignments, and completion tracking.
  • Translate investment, fiduciary, estate, tax, retirement, and planning concepts into practical language that clients can understand and act on.
  • Coordinate with attorneys, CPAs, insurance professionals, bankers, investment resources, trust specialists, operations, and other professionals with appropriate client authorization.
  • Identify planning needs involving retirement income, cash flow, estate planning, beneficiary structure, charitable giving, education funding, tax sensitivity, business succession, insurance, and related client objectives.
  • Work with investment resources to align portfolio strategy, cash needs, restrictions, tax considerations, risk tolerance, asset allocation, and client objectives.
  • Where authorized by policy and delegated authority, participate in investment recommendations, portfolio implementation, approved investment actions, or trade execution through approved bank processes.
  • Understand fiduciary obligations, governing documents, account agreements, discretionary boundaries, conflicts, beneficiary issues, documentation standards, and escalation requirements.
  • Administer or coordinate assigned personal trust, agency, IRA, fiduciary, investment management, and related wealth relationships in accordance with governing documents, bank policy, delegated authority, and applicable law.
  • Develop and maintain internal referral relationships and external centers of influence, including attorneys, CPAs, business owners, commercial bankers, community leaders, and other professional advisors.
  • Identify opportunities to deepen existing relationships, attract new clients, expand assets and revenue, and introduce appropriate bank or wealth-management services when in the client's interest.
  • Participate in prospect discovery, proposal development, client presentations, onboarding, community visibility, educational events, and COI development activities.
  • Maintain complete, timely, and accurate relationship notes, account documentation, review materials, approvals, issue tracking, and follow-up records.
  • Escalate material legal interpretation issues, beneficiary disputes, unusual distributions, conflicts, complaints, concentrations, policy exceptions, errors, or reputational concerns.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, accounting, economics, financial planning, or a related discipline preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in wealth management, financial planning, RIA advisory work, trust administration, investment management, private banking, estate planning, tax, law, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of financial planning, investments, portfolio construction, retirement planning, trust and estate concepts, taxation concepts, fiduciary principles, and bank trust operations.
  • Strong client relationship, communication, organization, documentation, problem-solving, business development, and follow-through skills.
  • Advanced degree or professional credential such as CFP, CPA, CTFA, CIMA, CFA, JD, CPWA, AEP, or similar role-relevant designation preferred.
  • Securities licensing is not required for the core Wealth Advisor role unless Croghan separately assigns licensed activity through approved channels.
Desired Skills, Knowledge, Abilities and Backgrounds
  • Strong financial planning mindset and a desire to build long-term client relationships.
  • Comfortable discussing investments, estate planning, tax-aware planning, retirement income, and family wealth issues while recognizing when a specialist should be involved.
  • Commercially aware and willing to contribute to business development without approaching the role as a transactional sales position.
  • Able to develop attorney, CPA, banker, client, and community relationships that support high-quality growth.
  • Fiduciary-minded, collaborative, practical, empathetic, and accountable for follow-through.
What We Offer -
  • Fair, competitive salaries evaluated against benchmarked data on a normal basis
  • Comprehensive benefits package including Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance
  • 401(k) with a company match, safe harbor and profit-sharing
  • Bank provided Group Life Insurance, Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Programs
  • Vacation, paid federal holidays, and additional PTO
  • A community-based, hometown culture
  • A collaborative environment supportive to continual growth and development
