Overview:
A leading, 60 year old Architecture & Planning firm is hiring a Senior Interior Designer in Royal Oak, MI! Candidates need to have healthcare experience and the NCIDQ Certification and will lead the interior design scope on complex, multi-phase projects in healthcare, institutional, and commercial projects from programming through FF&E Installation. This individual brings deep knowledge of evidence-based design, healthcare material and infection-control requirements, and the technical skills to produce complete interior construction documents. This role will work directly alongside licensed architects, interface with clients, and see your decisions carry through from programming to punch list.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead interior design development for assigned projects, including space planning, finish selections, furniture programming, and signage/wayfinding.
- Produce interior construction documents, including reflected ceiling plans, interior elevations, millwork details, and finish schedules.
- Apply evidence-based design (EBD) principles in healthcare settings.
- Demonstrate familiarity with FGI Guidelines for finish and material selection.
- Select and specify FF&E.
- Manage finish library, product research, and vendor relationships.
- Prepare and present design concepts to clients.
- Facilitate finish selection meetings and mock-up reviews.
- Lead the interior design scope with Architectural and MEP Documentation to resolve conflicts.
- Conduct regular site visits during construction to review finishes, millwork, and FF&E installation.
- Mentor other Interior Designers within the firm.
- Review work product and ensure consistency with project standards.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- The NCIDQ Certification is required.
- 7+ years of experience as an Interior Designer with at least 2 years in healthcare and institutional settings.
- 5+ years of experience working in an Architecture & Planning Consulting Firm environment.
- Strong proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite required.
- Experience with SketchUp and 3ds Max is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of applicable codes, including IBC Occupancy and Egress, ADA/ABA, and FGI Guidelines.
- Excellent client-facing, presentation, and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple Finish Packages and FF&E Specifications concurrently.
- Must (currently) live close enough to Royal Oak, MI to work fully on-site.
