Job description

The Water Meter Installation Technician objective is to provide service for the installation of water meters at utility Locations. Primary responsibilities will include: Managing a daily schedule for work accomplishment, accountability of assigned meters, conduct work within a work order management system, removal of old meters, installation of new meters for residential and commercial uses. High level of public interaction is required working in an outdoor environment.

Duties and core responsibilities include the following:

  • Removal of old water meter/register with the re-installation of a new water meter/register
  • Performs water meter change outs per a specified manner
  • Conduct work through a Work Order system
  • Manage all inventory of new and old meters
  • Working with utility personnel and utility consumers.
  • Responsible use of a company truck
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned or required.

Compensation (Paid Weekly):

Rate of pay: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must complete a background check & drug screening
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must have firm understanding of mechanical and water meter principles
  • Must have computer skills including the ability to operate a PC, mobile handheld applications, email, and navigation systems
  • Must maintain a professional manner and have strong communication skills to communicate effectively with the public, utility and internal teams
  • Individual must be willing and able to travel and stay overnight four to five weeks of their work schedule
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to sit, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is constantly required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl

Work Requirements:

  • Water meter and register exchange experience is required
  • On the job training and supervision will be provided prior to working independently
  • This position will REQUIRE travel. Need to be willing to travel/stay overnight as part of work schedule
  • High school diploma or equivalent
