Job description

Texas Meter & Device is ready to hire several Water Meter Technicians in the Denton, TX, area for a full-time, multi-year position.

Training wage is $20/hr. After successful completion of training and demonstration of proficiency, there will be an increase of pay to $22-$30/hour depending on task assignment.

Under the general direction of the Water Meter Installation Project Manager or field supervisor, the Water Meter Technician will be installing new water meters, resetting water meter pits (if needed), installing leak detection units, and retrofitting communication modules on existing meters.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Installation of new residential and commercial water meters.
  • Site surveys
  • Operating and driving a 1-ton flatbed truck and Hydro Vac Trailer.
  • Meter box replacement.
  • General labor duties including but not limited to clean-up of equipment, spills, work areas, grounds repair/restoration
  • Recording address, GPS, and meter information.
  • Verification of proper installation/transmission of new meter data by utilizing tablet PC, handheld equipment or smartphone.
  • Manages daily client communications, data and reporting.
  • Coordinates scheduling and meets quality / quantity requirements.
  • Provide for excellence in internal and external customer service.
  • Create a positive experience for customers, water users and communities through professional and courteous behavior and producing high-quality results.
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned or necessary.

Requirements:

· Mechanical aptitude is necessary

* Must reside in the greater Denton, TX area as there is no per diem nor relocation associated with this position. Must be able to commute to the TMD warehouse in Denton daily.

· Ability to use handheld devices and other equipment as required for the position.

· Ability to work with minimum supervision.

· Ability to stand on feet, bend or stoop for a prolonged period of time. The work is performed outdoors and through inclement weather as necessary.

· Ability to carry out duties and operate company vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.

· Stable Multi-year Work History

· Good Communication Skills (speaking, reading and writing)

· Must have a valid driver's license and an EXCELLENT driving record.

· Must be a minimum of 21 years of age and have a minimum of 3 years of driving experience due to insurance requirements.

· Additional Requirements: Background check clearance including drug screening and I-9 documentation as required by law

Work days will generally be M-F, but weekend work may be required at times. Work hours are usually an 8-hour shift between the hours of 7am - 5pm (such as: 7am - 3:30pm with a 30 min lunch period, 7:30am - 4pm with a 30 min lunch period, or 8am - 4:30pm with a 30 min lunch period) but can vary based on the individual project.

Employees will report to a specified location each day to pick up inventory and their work vehicle for the day and must also return to the work location after their route at the end of day to offload old inventory and secure work vehicle for the evening. Reliable transportation to and from the TMD warehouse location is required.
