Job description

Summary

This position is responsible for the legal service of arrest warrants, of civil papers, and the transportation of prisoners to and from court and other jurisdictions. The position includes some investigative work as well as all associated paperwork. This position is under the general supervision of the Warrant & Civil Captain, Warrant & Civil Sergeant, and/or his/her designee.

Deliver legal documents; conduct research to facilitate this and ensure compliant documentation

  • Properly deliver arrest warrants to detain subjects; make sure all actions are compliant with applicable regulations.
  • Continuous investigation and follow-up of information and leads coupled with research to locate and effect the arrest of wanted persons.
  • Accurately complete records and reports related to all warrants processed; transmit and receive warrant related information as required.
  • Identify delivery location and establish delivery route for daily civil paper serving activities.
  • Deliver civil papers in accordance with State law and department operating procedures.
  • Accurately record service activity and return properly completed documentation to the originator; make sure information is properly organized and entered in to the computer.
  • Serve evictions and ensure property is returned to landlord.
  • Assist with property confiscations.
  • Effect an arrest when required.

Take custody of and transport prisoners and detainees

  • Take custody of detainees, including CINC/OPC and emergency committal patients, and provide delivery to the proper authority
  • Transport prisoners to and from court, other jurisdictions, and local appointments as directed
  • Complete general clerical tasks associated with job function: establishing and maintaining filing systems, answering phones, acting as a communication point for people/groups inside or outside of the department (public, law enforcement, court personnel, etc.), making copies, and retrieving information. Maintain compliancy with all applicable regulations.
  • Maintain assigned vehicle and equipment, to include cleaning and servicing.

Complete additional support duties

  • Provide reports, information, dockets, and records as required.
  • Accurately access/input/retrieve computer data
  • Maintain security of courtroom and surrounding area; ensure safety of court personnel, inmates, and civilians during court proceedings
  • Process juveniles as required by state statute.
  • Testify in court when required
  • Assist other divisions as required.
  • Perform Patrol duties as needed; see Patrol descriptions.

Additional duties may be assigned as business needs require.
