What is Wagyu beef?

Wagyu beef refers to meat from specific Japanese cattle breeds known for their intense marbling, tenderness, and rich flavor. The word 'Wagyu' literally means 'Japanese cow.' Wagyu cattle are raised with meticulous care, often given special diets and living conditions to produce high-quality beef. The marbling in Wagyu beef results in a buttery texture and unique umami taste, making it highly prized and often more expensive than other types of beef. It is commonly enjoyed as steaks, sushi, or in Japanese dishes like sukiyaki and shabu-shabu.
