Description
The Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center invites applications for an experienced leader to serve as Director of the Division of Laboratory Medicine. Acting under the Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs, this leader will provide vision and supervision for the clinical, academic, and educational activities of the Division, which includes 28 faculty across 9 specialized service lines, covering the entire spectrum of laboratory medicine practice. They will be responsible for faculty hiring, mentoring, and development. They will serve as CLIA Medical Director for the Vanderbilt Medical Laboratories at VUMC Main Campus and Metro Center and in partnership with the Vice President of Laboratory Medicine Operations will supervise laboratory testing across the VUMC system.
Vanderbilt Medical Laboratories (VML) provides clinical laboratory support for Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC), a national leader in clinical services, medical education, and basic, translational, and clinical research. VML includes 5 testing sites, including the new 110,000 square foot state-of-the-art reference laboratory at Metro Center. Collectively, VML results more than 8 million tests per year in support of patient care at VUMC with additional outreach to other health systems across the nation.
Located in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee, Vanderbilt University Medical Center is one of the nation's leading research and teaching institutions with >1,700 inpatient beds across 7 hospitals and 3.3 million outpatient visits per year. VUMC is experiencing expansion in many areas with a top 20 cancer center, multifaceted organ and stem cell transplant programs, expanding educational programs, and myriad opportunities for clinical, translational, and basic science research. Nashville, the capital of Tennessee, is a growing and vibrant, cosmopolitan area with a population exceeding 1 million, diverse entertainment, excellent schools, and ready access to outdoor activities.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree (M.D. or D.O.) with board certification in Clinical Pathology and subspecialty training in one or more disciplines of Laboratory Medicine. They must qualify for faculty appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level and must meet CLIA Laboratory Director requirements. They should have an outstanding record of academic achievement and clinical leadership, including medical director experience. They should have a compelling vision to develop and lead innovative clinical, academic, and educational programs in Laboratory Medicine. Experience with laboratory outreach programs is desirable.
