Robot Pilot (Contract)

Job Description

A leading robotics organization is seeking Robot Pilots to support hands-on robot operation and data collection in a fast-paced lab environment. This role is ideal for candidates who are comfortable using technology, enjoy working with advanced hardware, and can follow structured task instructions while providing thoughtful feedback to engineers.

Schedule/Working Hours

  • Full-time, onsite position with regular weekday hours.
  • Schedule may eventually include multiple shifts.
  • Employees will begin on an initial training schedule before being assigned to their regular shift.

Responsibilities

  • Teleoperate robots using a VR system.
  • Follow task demonstrations and structured playbooks to execute specific robot behaviors and scenarios.
  • Communicate clearly with engineers and managers about blockers, improvement opportunities, and task observations.
  • Monitor robot performance and behavior, identifying issues, inconsistencies, or unexpected outcomes.
  • Interrupt robot execution when necessary and provide corrective demonstrations to support machine learning workflows.
  • Participate in a continuous feedback loop, contributing to peer reviews and tooling/process improvements.
  • Support quality assurance (QA) tasks during downtime when not actively teleoperating robots.
  • Adapt quickly to evolving workflows and tooling as the role changes alongside ongoing development.

Qualifications

Physical & Technical Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to stand and move for extended periods, with breaks as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable wearing and operating VR headsets, motion capture equipment, and handheld VR controllers for extended sessions.
  • VR use may be physically demanding and can cause discomfort or motion sickness for some individuals.
