The Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs Wholesale Markets provides strategic leadership for the company's engagement in U.S. wholesale electriticy markets.  This role is accountable for shaping market design, transmission planning, strengthening market policy awareness, cost allocation frameworks, and enhancing commercial outcomes across ISO/RTO and state-jurisdictional forums to protect and advance utility-scale project development and operating assets.

Role Responsibilities: 

  • Lead and manage regional wholesale market teams across U.S. organized markets, setting strategic priorities, allocating resources, and ensuring alignment with RWE's growth, development, and asset optimization objectives
  • Serve as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to the Vice President of Policy and Regulatory Affairs, providing forwardlooking counsel on wholesale market design, transmission policy, and regulatory strategy
  • Proactively identify, monitor, and communicate federal and state regulatory initiatives across U.S. wholesale power markets with potential commercial impact to RWE's development and operating portfolio
  • Analyze and synthesize complex market rulemakings, transmission planning reforms, and cost allocation proceedings; assess commercial risks and opportunities; and brief executive leadership with clear strategic recommendations
  • Actively participate in ISO/RTO stakeholder processes and state regulatory proceedings, including drafting comments, developing testimony, coordinating expert support, and advocating RWE's positions in formal and informal forums
  • Partner with internal commercial, development, transmission, and interconnection teams to align regulatory strategy with RWE's policy positions and business objectives
  • Represent RWE in stakeholder processes and meetings at regional grid operators, including PJM Interconnection
  • Lead engagement with regional and state regulatory agencies, including the ISO/RTO and state public utility commissions, on wholesale market design, transmission planning, and cost allocation matters
  • Actively participate in industry trade associations and stakeholder coalitions to advance aligned policy positions and influence market outcomes
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, regulators, peers, and grid operators
  • Lead, develop, and mentor market and regulatory professional, operating effectively within a matrixed, cross-functional environment
  • Manage external advisors and consultants to advance strategic priorities effectively and efficiently

Job Requirements and Experiences:

  • Degree in Engineering, Business, Economics, Policy, or other relevant areas.  Advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of demonstrated experience within U.S. organized wholesale electric power markets, including experience managing and leading cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated leadership in ISO/RTO stakeholder processes and regulatory proceedings, with a proven ability to guide teams, influence outcomes, and drive strategic initiatives
  • Experience operating in a fast-paced agile commercial environment
  • Adaptable to working in a cross-functional matrixed environment interacting with internal resources, external consultants, and trade organizations
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to manage internal and external customer relationships in person and remotely
  • Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Teams
  • Strong leadership, written and verbal communication, and stakeholder engagement skills. Strong organization skills and detailed oriented ability to multi-task, while working independently and as part of a team
  • Motivated self-starter, goal-oriented, and strong problem-solving abilities
  • Responds well to direction, is easy to challenge and develop, and is coachable
  • Strong business acumen, and a sound understanding of business concepts
  • This position is an office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWE offices and field locations
  • Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time

Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in Illinois is $226,000 - $280,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
