ShipMonk is seeking a Vice President of Information Technology to serve as a senior member of our technology leadership team and own the full IT function across our global fulfillment network. This is a strategic, executive-level role with broad accountability - spanning enterprise infrastructure strategy, multi-site IT operations, cybersecurity posture, digital workplace enablement, and the IT investment roadmap. The VP, IT will partner directly with the CTO, CSCO, and other executive stakeholders to ensure that technology infrastructure is a competitive differentiator, not a constraint, as ShipMonk continues to scale.
This is not a steady-state leadership role. ShipMonk is growing rapidly and the VP, IT is expected to raise the maturity ceiling of the entire IT organization - transforming how we operate, invest, and deliver infrastructure at scale. The right candidate has already done this. They have built functions, not just managed them.
About the Team
The IT function is the operational backbone of ShipMonk's fulfillment centers and corporate offices. It is accountable for network infrastructure, end-user computing, IT service delivery, cybersecurity governance, asset lifecycle management, and vendor relationships across all sites. Reporting to the CTO, the VP of IT will lead a multi-disciplinary organization including IT Infrastructure Engineers, IT Support Specialists, IT Automation Engineers, and Network Engineers. The VP will be expected to define the organizational model, set the talent strategy, and personally elevate the function from a reactive support org to a proactive, engineering-forward infrastructure team.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Leadership & Organizational Strategy
  • Define the vision, structure, and operating model for a high-performing global IT organization - setting clear roles, career paths, performance standards, and accountability frameworks that attract and retain top-tier talent.
  • Serve as the IT voice in executive and cross-functional discussions, translating infrastructure capabilities and constraints into language and decisions that drive business outcomes.
  • Build a culture of engineering rigor, documentation discipline, and operational ownership so that the function is resilient, scalable, and not dependent on any individual.
  • Assess current organizational capabilities against the demands of a rapidly growing business; develop and execute a multi-year talent and capability roadmap that stays ahead of business needs.
  • Establish the staffing and coverage model - including on-site IT support at each fulfillment center - and a repeatable framework for scaling that model to new sites.
Enterprise Infrastructure Strategy & Architecture
  • Own the multi-year technology roadmap for network infrastructure, end-user computing, cloud connectivity, and operational technology (OT) across all ShipMonk sites.
  • Define and enforce enterprise architecture standards, reference designs, and security baselines for LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, Wi-Fi, firewalls, VPN, and edge infrastructure in high-throughput warehouse and office environments.
  • Lead infrastructure planning for site expansions, greenfield fulfillment center buildouts, and M&A integration events - building the playbook that makes each successive rollout faster and more predictable.
  • Evaluate emerging infrastructure technologies (SD-WAN, SASE, private 5G, IoT, edge compute) for applicability to ShipMonk's operational environment and drive adoption where there is clear business value.
  • Ensure infrastructure architecture supports the performance and availability requirements of ShipMonk's systems, and real-time operational workflows.
Cybersecurity & Risk Governance
  • Own ShipMonk's cybersecurity strategy and risk posture at the infrastructure and endpoint level - including network segmentation, access control, endpoint protection, vulnerability management, and incident response readiness.
  • Develop and maintain IT risk and compliance frameworks aligned with applicable regulations, customer requirements, and industry best practices (SOC 2, ISO 27001, or equivalent).
  • Partner with the broader Technology leadership team to ensure cybersecurity considerations are embedded in product and platform architecture decisions, not bolted on.
  • Lead IT business continuity and disaster recovery planning, ensuring ShipMonk can maintain or rapidly restore operations across all sites in the event of infrastructure failure or a security event.
  • Establish a security awareness and governance program that extends accountability for cyber hygiene across the organization - beyond the IT team.
IT Service Delivery & Operational Excellence
  • Design and own the IT service delivery model - defining SLAs, escalation paths, incident management workflows, and quality standards for hardware provisioning, troubleshooting, and end-user support across all sites.
  • Establish a mature IT asset management program with full lifecycle visibility: procurement, provisioning, tracking, refresh planning, and decommissioning of all hardware and software assets.
  • Build and own the peak season readiness program - including infrastructure hardening checklists, capacity reviews, contingency plans, and cross-functional alignment with Operations and Technology - so that every site is operationally ready before peak volume arrives.
  • Implement IT service management best practices (ITIL or equivalent) adapted to ShipMonk's pace and operational environment; drive continuous improvement across all service delivery metrics.
  • Ensure every fulfillment center has the right on-site IT coverage, skills, and escalation support - and that site-level IT operations meet a consistent standard regardless of geography.
Digital Workplace & End-User Enablement
  • Own the strategy and execution for ShipMonk's digital workplace: endpoint management, collaboration platforms, identity and access management (IAM), and productivity tooling for both office and warehouse environments.
  • Ensure warehouse associates and operational staff have reliable, performant access to the tools they need - including handheld scanners, label printers, warehouse displays, and fulfillment terminals - with minimal friction and fast break-fix resolution.
  • Partner with HR and Operations to design onboarding and offboarding IT workflows that scale efficiently across ShipMonk's distributed workforce and high employee volume.
Vendor & Partner Management
  • Build and govern a structured vendor management program for all strategic IT relationships - ISPs, network integrators, hardware OEMs, managed service providers, and software vendors - including selection criteria, performance scorecards, and regular review cadences.
  • Lead high-stakes vendor negotiations for contracts, SLAs, and pricing; set the standard for how ShipMonk evaluates, onboards, and holds external partners accountable.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to rationalize the vendor portfolio, reduce cost, and improve service quality through strategic sourcing and contract consolidation.
Financial Stewardship & Executive Reporting
  • Own the IT operating and capital budget across all sites; develop rigorous planning, forecasting, and tracking processes that ensure fiscal discipline and surface cost optimization opportunities proactively.
  • Establish the IT reporting framework - defining the key metrics (uptime, incident resolution, asset utilization, project delivery, security posture, cost per site) and presenting them with context and insight at Monthly and Quarterly Business Reviews.
  • Build the business case rigor within the IT organization: capital investment proposals, build-vs-buy analyses, and ROI frameworks for infrastructure decisions.
  • Operate with a business-owner mindset - balancing the need for technology investment with the fiscal realities of a high-growth, operationally intensive business.
Desired Experience
The ideal candidate is a builder and operator - someone who has led IT transformations in complex, multi-site environments and knows how to run both strategy and execution simultaneously.
Required
  • 12+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a senior director or VP-level role with full IT organizational ownership.
  • Demonstrated track record of transforming IT functions in high-growth, multi-site environments - warehousing, logistics, e-commerce, or equivalent operational settings strongly preferred.
  • Deep expertise in enterprise network architecture (LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, Wi-Fi, firewalls, VPN, DNS, DHCP) with hands-on credibility and strategic range.
  • Proven experience owning cybersecurity strategy and risk governance at the infrastructure level; familiarity with SOC 2, ISO 27001, or equivalent frameworks.
  • Executive presence and communication skills: the ability to represent IT strategy credibly to a C-suite audience and drive cross-functional alignment on technology investments.
  • Track record of building and leading geographically distributed teams, including site-level IT operations at scale.
  • Experience owning multi-million dollar IT operating and capital budgets with full accountability for performance and outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to build vendor management programs, negotiate enterprise contracts, and manage strategic supplier relationships.

Strongly Preferred
  • Experience in third-party logistics (3PL), fulfillment operations, e-commerce infrastructure, or supply chain technology environments.
  • Familiarity with warehouse technology ecosystems: WMS/OMS platforms, barcode scanners, label printing infrastructure, industrial Wi-Fi, and ruggedized device management.
  • Experience leading IT through M&A events, including infrastructure integration, due diligence support, and post-acquisition standardization.
  • Exposure to operational technology (OT) environments and the convergence of IT and OT infrastructure in a fulfillment or manufacturing context.
  • Relevant professional certifications: CISSP, CISM, CCNP/CCIE, ITIL, PMP, or equivalent.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree (MBA or MS in a technical discipline) preferred.
What Success Looks Like
In the first 90 days, the VP of IT will have completed a thorough assessment of the current infrastructure, team, and vendor landscape - and will have presented a prioritized transformation roadmap to the CTO and executive team.
In year one, the VP of IT will have raised the maturity of IT operations measurably: network uptime will be higher, incident resolution will be faster, asset management will be accurate, and peak season will be executed more systematically than the year before.
In years two and three, the IT organization will be recognized internally as a competitive enabler - a function that accelerates ShipMonk's growth rather than reacting to it.
