Assistant Vice President, Hospital Operations & Ancillary Services
Job Overview:
The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Hospital Operations & Ancillary Services provides leadership, direction, and oversight for the hospital's ancillary departments, ensuring efficient operations, regulatory compliance, and high-quality patient care.
At Clara Maass Medical Center, the AVP serves as both a strategic partner and an operational leader, working closely with department directors to align services with community needs, patient satisfaction goals, and the hospital's mission and values.
Reports to:
The Assistant Vice President reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer CMMC.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
- Bachelor's degree in a clinical discipline (required).
Experience
- Minimum 7 years of progressive leadership experience in hospital operations, with at least 5 years managing ancillary or clinical support services.
- Experience working in a community or regional hospital preferred.
- Strong background in quality management, operational efficiency, and patient-centered service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic and Operational Leadership
- Develop and execute operational plans for ancillary departments that support the hospital's strategic priorities and community health goals.
- Oversee day-to-day operations and performance of key ancillary areas, including: imaging and radiology, laboratory, pathology, respiratory therapy, radiation oncology, patient transport, room care.
Logistics
- Collaborate with the COO and senior leadership to optimize patient flow, involving the strategic coordination of hospital beds, equipment, and support services to ensure patients move efficiently from admission to discharge.
Quality and Compliance
- Ensure all ancillary departments meet or exceed standards set by The Joint Commission, CMS, and state regulatory agencies.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes, reduce errors, and increase patient satisfaction.
- Promote evidence-based practices and data-driven performance improvement.
Financial and Resource Management
- Develop and manage departmental budgets; monitor expenses, revenue, and productivity to ensure financial sustainability.
- Identify and implement cost-saving measures without compromising quality of care.
- Manage vendor and service contracts to ensure competitive pricing and high service standards.
Team Development and Leadership
- Supervise and mentor department directors and managers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Promote employee engagement, retention, and professional growth through leadership development and succession planning.
- Ensure effective communication across departments and between frontline staff and leadership.
Community and Patient Engagement
- Strengthen partnerships with community physicians, clinics, and health programs to ensure seamless patient care and service accessibility.
- Participate in community health initiatives and represent ancillary services in public outreach or health education events.
- Support programs that align with the hospital's mission to meet the healthcare needs of the local population.
