Supervisory Responsibilities:- Leads the accounting department’s internal audit process across assigned entities by establishing internal responsibilities, coordinating accounting deliverables, monitoring progress, resolving bottlenecks, and ensuring information submitted for audit is accurate, complete, and timely.
- Serves as the accounting department’s primary liaison with the Tax Compliance team, coordinating accounting support for audit requirements, communicating the status of deliverables, escalating internal issues, and supporting the Tax Compliance team’s management of external auditor relationships and engagement activities.
- Oversees the accounting department’s response to audit requests, including assigning requests to the appropriate accounting teams, reviewing supporting documentation, monitoring outstanding items, and ensuring responses are consistent across entities and engagements.
- Oversees the preparation and review of consolidated financial statements, including supporting schedules, disclosures, footnotes, management reports, and reporting packages, to ensure completeness, consistency, and compliance with applicable accounting standards.
- Directs the organization’s consolidation process, including intercompany reconciliations and eliminations, ownership structures, consolidation methodologies, and reporting consistency across legal entities, joint ventures, and development projects.
- Reviews and approves proposed audit adjustments and technical accounting conclusions, evaluates their financial statement impact, coordinates resolution with accounting leadership, and communicates the accounting department’s conclusions to the Tax Compliance team.
- Oversees the development and consistent application of accounting policies, financial reporting standards, and supporting documentation requirements throughout the accounting organization.
- Provides leadership and technical guidance to Accounting Managers, Assistant Vice Presidents, Vice Presidents, and accounting staff on audit support, consolidations, financial reporting, complex accounting matters, and year-round audit readiness.
- Acts as the accounting department’s principal technical resource for audit-related accounting matters, including proposed adjustments, financial statement presentation, supporting analyses, accounting estimates, and complex or unusual transactions.
- Partners with the Tax Compliance team throughout each audit engagement by clarifying accounting matters, preparing technical responses, participating in issue-resolution discussions, and providing the accounting information needed to support the external audit process.
- Researches, analyzes, and documents accounting conclusions for significant or unusual transactions through technical accounting memoranda, position papers, calculations, and supporting analyses.
- Evaluates the accounting implications of acquisitions, dispositions, development projects, refinancings, debt arrangements, joint ventures, partnership structures, equity transactions, and other complex business activities.
- Reviews audit findings and proposed adjustments, assesses the underlying accounting and control implications, recommends appropriate responses, and works with operational accounting leaders to implement approved corrections.
- Performs high-level review of consolidated financial information, including intercompany balances, elimination entries, ownership calculations, reporting classifications, and entity-level results.
- Monitors new accounting guidance and financial reporting developments, evaluates their potential effect on the organization, and recommends changes to accounting policies, procedures, and reporting practices.
- Identifies opportunities to improve audit readiness, supporting documentation, consolidation procedures, financial statement preparation, and communication between Accounting and Tax Compliance.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Accounting or related field from an accredited four-year college or university required.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive accounting experience, including significant experience in public accounting, technical accounting, financial reporting, or audit-related roles.
- Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience overseeing accounting, financial reporting, audit, or technical accounting functions.
- Extensive experience preparing, reviewing, and/or auditing GAAP-compliant financial statements and related disclosures.
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing external audits and serving as a primary liaison with independent auditors.
- Strong experience researching, documenting, and applying accounting guidance to complex business transactions.
- Experience with multi-entity accounting structures, consolidations, intercompany eliminations, and financial reporting across multiple legal entities.
- Experience evaluating acquisitions, dispositions, financing arrangements, joint ventures, partnership structures, or other complex transactions.
- Experience developing accounting policies, internal controls, reporting procedures, and accounting governance practices.
- Possesses advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial statement presentation, consolidations, partnership accounting, ownership structures, financing arrangements, development accounting, and complex transactions. Applies accounting guidance to facts and circumstances and develops defensible conclusions.
- Effectively manages the accounting department’s responsibilities within multiple audit engagements by establishing ownership, coordinating deliverables, monitoring progress, and maintaining the quality of information provided.
- Builds a strong working relationship with the Tax Compliance team and serves as the central connection between that team and the accounting department. Understands the difference between engagement ownership and accounting support responsibilities.
- Provides direction for consolidated reporting across multiple entities, ownership structures, joint ventures, and projects. Ensures consolidation entries and financial statement information are complete, supportable, and consistently prepared.
- Evaluates proposed audit adjustments from both a technical and operational perspective. Determines the underlying issue, assesses financial statement significance, and coordinates an appropriate response with accounting leadership and Tax Compliance.
- Analyzes significant and unusual transactions and determines the appropriate accounting and reporting treatment before issues arise during the audit or financial statement preparation process.
- Develops and promotes accounting policies, documentation standards, and reporting practices that support consistency, compliance, and defensible accounting conclusions across the organization.
- Communicates complex accounting matters clearly to Tax Compliance, accounting leadership, operational teams, executive leadership, and professional advisors. Influences outcomes through expertise, preparation, and sound judgment.
- Strengthens the processes and controls supporting financial statements, consolidations, audit schedules, and technical accounting documentation. Promotes sustained readiness and reduces recurring audit issues.
- Improves the efficiency, consistency, and scalability of audit support, consolidated reporting, and technical accounting processes through standardization, automation, and better use of systems.
