Job description

Opportunity

The Production Overhead Group serves as the strategic backbone of our studio, bridging the gap between individual show execution and the direction and strategy of the Studio. This group acts as a high-level consultancy and problem-solving engine, ensuring that both creative ambitions and operational efficiencies are balanced across the slate. From artist management, to workforce planning, deep-dive scenario planning to optimizing global workflows, the Production Overhead Group ensures that structural Studio support is given to every production in order to deliver world‑class content.

We’re looking for a VP, Production who will be a resource to producers and filmmakers in their endeavor to create unique worlds within our animated films, prioritizing creative excellence, artist experience and production efficiency. Candidates should be experts in the CG animation pipelines, both on the front end and back end, including Story, Look Development, Production, Post Production, and Finance. Our ideal candidate is an effective, strategic thought‑partner to show leadership, able to support in areas such as scenario planning, schedule assessments, artist resources, and studio communication. As a vital ally to Producers and Associate Producers (APs), this role provides the connective tissue required to navigate Studio priorities, initiatives, practices, and evolving strategies.

What You’ll Do
  • Strategic Scenario Planning: Lead high‑level scenario planning across the studio slate.
  • Production Problem‑Solving: Act as a thought partner for Producers, and Associate/Line Producers in navigating production hurdles; workshop issues ranging from inventory backlogs and catch‑up plans to technical bottlenecks and communication breakdowns.
  • CG Leadership Partnership: Consult with CG Leadership and Studio Heads of Crafts to bridge any gap between Studio / show creative expectations and current pipeline realities.
  • Post Production Management: Lead the Post Production Management team, supporting both studio process and standards, along with production delivery objectives.
  • Studio‑Level Orchestration: Partner with Artist Management to navigate cross‑show crew challenges, ensuring smooth transitions for talent and maintaining a pulse on studio‑wide staffing needs, and recruiting.
  • Operational Optimization: Consult on production management best practices and CG workflow optimizations; drive the adoption of standardized templates, R&D projects, and Prod Tech initiatives across the portfolio.
  • Risk Assessment & Reporting: Provide Sr. Studio Leadership with a consolidated view of production health; flag budgetary risks, schedule challenges, and potential impacts on the workforce.
  • Change Management: Support the producers and AP/LPs on navigating studio changes and shifting priorities.
  • Template Planning and Assessment: Lead the NAS cross‑functional group that evaluates, sets and continuously reassesses our template production plans and budgets.
  • Best Practice Mentorship: Be a resource for the Producers/AP/LPs on staffing structures and workflow design.
  • Cultural Stewardship: Champion a performance culture that values transparency and empathy, ensuring that production leadership across all shows feels supported and aligned with Netflix’s core values.
What You’ll Need
  • 15+ years of experience in animation film, including significant managerial roles in end‑to‑end productions, including multiple roles such as Producer, Co‑Producer, Line Producer or Associate Producer.
  • Executive‑level experience in animation/CG or VFX production, with deep knowledge of both front‑end and back‑end workflows.
  • Proven Strategic Leadership: Expertise in scenario planning, risk assessment, and the ability to balance schedule, budget, quality, and workforce health across multiple shows.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong experience shaping and evaluating production budgets, templates, and resource plans in partnership with Production and Finance leadership.
  • Exceptional Collaboration Skills: A track record of working effectively with Studio Executives, Producers, VFX Supervisors, and Artist Management to drive consensus and quick decisions.
  • Cross‑Functional Problem Solving: Demonstrated strength in workshop‑style facilitation for complex production, technical, and personnel issues.
  • Operational Drive: Experience driving change in production processes and tooling in collaboration with Prod Tech and R&D teams.
  • High EQ: Sound judgment and the ability to navigate sensitive staffing, union, and leadership concerns with humility and open‑mindedness.

This role is based in the US.

Compensation for this role typically ranges from $378,000 to $600,000 total, inclusive of base salary, benefits, and potential other provisions. The overall market range reflects total compensation; bonuses are not included in this role.
