Job description

Job Summary:
Vorto is on a mission to improve America’s Supply Chain efficiency and sustainability. They are seeking a Backend Engineer who will design, build, and operate mission-critical services, automate workflows, and embed AI technologies to enhance productivity and system performance.
Responsibilities:
• Design, build, and operate services used daily by shippers, carriers, and drivers
• Automate developer-dependent tasks (e.g., tool creation and debugging) to accelerate internal and customer automation efforts
• Embed AI/LLMs (Vertex AI, open‑source models, agentic tools) to automate decision‑making and super‑charge developer productivity
• Stabilize backend services
• Own Problems end to end
Qualifications:
Required:
• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience delivering production systems at scale.
• Strong background in product driven backend development
• Deep understanding of what makes systems performant, scalable, and maintainable
• Fluency with SQL schema design and data modeling for transactional & analytical workloads.
• Demonstrated ability to leverage LLMs/AI agents to boost velocity and solve novel problems.
• Superior product reasoning skills
• Exceptional written & verbal communication; able to align technical decisions with business outcomes.
Preferred:
• Proven track record of owning problems end to end
• Startup experience
• Experience stabilizing and scaling large code bases
