Compensation Range for a Supervisor, Fiber Splicing:

  • Salary Range $76,600.00 - $103,000.00

Position Summary:

This is a working supervisor position responsible for coordinating the splicing team's work activities, job management and interfacing with customer contacts. In this role you may participate in splicing support of day to day and emergency operations, that will at times include preparation, installation, testing and troubleshooting fiber optic cable. To be successful in this role, a person must possess the technical knowledge and organizational skills to effectively manage splicing operations in support of the team's work.


Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of splicing teams, fostering a cohesive team, leading individual and team growth and development, and problem solving to achieve results that align with the company's plans and objectives.
  • Responsible for complying with all safety standards, always ensuring safety of splicing teams
  • Manage work orders as received from customer points of contact and coordinate work activities and schedules for team of local fiber splicing technicians
  • Accurately read and interpret splicing documents, splicing engineer packets and network plan designs in preparation for each job assignment
  • Interface with customer demonstrating the ability to discuss job requirements, foresee potential issues, provide technical advice, troubleshoot problems and assign work to meet customer expectations
  • Effectively meet the demands of emergency calls by routing splicers per skill and ability, safe working conditions, and participate as needed to oversee or fill-in when needed
  • Oversee jobs assigned to fiber splicing team ensuring jobs are completed on time, in a safe and quality manner. Upon completion of customer work orders, ensure testing is complete and accurate and produce job closeout packets and present to customer as required by individual customer protocols
  • Accurately manage and track job components to account for all billing requirements and opportunities, communicating with corporate billing teams pro-actively and with responsiveness.
  • Assist with bidding and quoting of jobs per requirements, accounting for foreseeable challenges that may arise and changes in scope
  • Responsible for routine vehicle and equipment maintenance schedules, ensuring completion of scheduled maintenance, and making recommendations for needed repairs, replacement, or new vehicles and equipment
  • Responsible for inventory and equipment management, working with other splicing markets for loaning and trading, and making recommendations for replacement or new as needed
  • Provide project status updates to leadership team and customers as required
  • Keep current with fiber optic design and splicing processes, tools and techniques
  • In conjunction with human resources, assist with recruiting, retaining, and effectively managing employee performance in support of company policies, processes and procedures

Essential Requirements:

  • Technical degree in line work or fiber engineering or the equivalent in training and/or work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated work experience in splicing, testing, and troubleshooting fiber networks.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams effectively
  • Expert level communication skills, verbal and written
  • Fully proficient in all splicing procedures
  • Expert knowledge using Fujikura fusion splicing equipment
  • Expert knowledge using Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR)
  • Knowledge of Google earth files
  • Knowledge of Fast Reporter software
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Must possess strong problem solving, decision making, analytical skills and organizational skills
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and follow written procedures
  • Ability to work from an Aerial lift truck and/or ladder
  • Ability to use light source and power meters
  • Position requires driving between worksites
  • Travel may be required
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background check and drug tests as required


Preferred Knowledge and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 or more years of supervisor or management experience.

This position requires a combination of mobile and sedentary work with the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time, visual acuity to perform activities related to computer work, finger dexterity for job equipment and hand tools. Crouching, climbing, and reaching on a limited basis. Ability to walk, carry and lift objects as needed. Must be able to lift 75 pounds. On a limited basis, required to perform work frequently in close quarters, crawl spaces, manholes, and other areas that could cause claustrophobia. Must be able to meet height and weight restrictions as required to perform work using required job equipment or lifts.
