Ontic's Chatsworth, CA, site specializes in precision engineering, MRO, and new solutions for parts at risk of obsolescence. Our team is looking for a Machinist III in our Chatsworth, CA office. The Machinistposition is responsible for working under minimal supervision while running, set-up and operating lathes (machining of I.D. & O.D. threads, precision boring, etc.), mills. Works from blueprints and verbal instructions to plan and perform machining work on production parts. Additionally, must be able to work with Engineering to design and fabricate complex dies, jigs, fixtures, assembly aids, models, tooling and test equipment components. Use of trigonometric formulas a plus. Must have the skill to machine precision parts to close tolerances (.00005" or less) and dimensions. Make all necessary calculations and checks and inspects machining operations using precision measuring instruments. Shall have the ability to trouble shoot tooling issues and correct that problem when encountered. They must also possess the patience to support immediate production needs (work stoppage) in a timely manner. Maintains related records, performs associated handling duties and maintains work areas in a neat and orderly condition.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES FOR THIS JOB
  • Set-up and operating lathes (machining of I.D. & O.D. threads, precision boring, etc.), mills, grinding, honing, lap and super finishing machines.
  • Works from blueprints and verbal instructions to plan and perform machining work on production parts.
  • design and fabricate complex dies, jigs, fixtures, assembly aids, models, tooling and test equipment components.
