HAVEN's Mission Statement:

Empower survivors to heal and engage all individuals and communities to address and prevent sexual assault and intimate partner violence.


Position Summary:

The Shelter Advocate will be responsible for the shelter front desk coverage, fulfilling clerical duties, data entry, reporting, documentation, file maintenance and providing excellent customer service to the residential guests. The Domestic Violence Shelter Advocate will assess shelter residents' primary needs and provide resources and help to ensure the safety of the residential guests and the shelter facility.

Available Shifts:

 2pm-10pm Sunday -Thursday 

 2pm-10pm Tuesday-Saturday

10pm-6am Sunday-Thursday

10pm-6am Tuesday-Saturday


The Advocate position offers a competitive benefit plan which includes medical, dental and vision along with PTO time, sick time, diversity days, and a 401k.


A shift premium of $1.50 will be applied ONLY to the 3rd shift (10pm-6am). 


Essential Duties

  • Provide internal and community resources to shelter guests.
  • Support with answering the Crisis and Support Line and online chats as needed.
  • Monitor the HAVEN residential shelter and grounds to maintain security via hourly walk-throughs and camera monitoring.
  • Provide residential guests with requested personal need items, keeps front desk and intake room storage spaces stocked.
  • Manage residential intakes as needed and facilitate residential discharges.
  • Provide assistance during critical incidents including but not limited to client escalation, calling 911, and evacuation for fire alarm.
  • Participate in residential client-centered events.
  • Help train and orient residential staff, volunteers, and interns as well as providing ongoing support and mentoring.
  • Interact with residential guests and provide educational information on domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Clean the building and ensure all rooms are appropriate for client services.
  • Maintain accurate records, and ensure all documentation remains compliant.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Requirements

  • Degree in human services preferred; equivalent experience in crisis intervention in place of degree accepted.
  • 1 year experience working in advocacy or a shelter or experience working with individuals who have experienced trauma strongly preferred.
  • 1 year customer service experience required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver's license, acceptable driving record, and reliable transportation.
  • Willing and able to complete and clear a comprehensive background report.
