Job description

Job Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for all aspects of the Volunteer Department
  • Participates in the development and implementation of policies and procedures that govern the department
  • Screens, selects, evaluates, counsels or disciplines volunteers to ensure these individuals meet the organization's standards
  • Conducts ongoing efforts to recruit, prepare, and retain volunteers of all ages and ethnic backgrounds
  • Participates in planning, decision making and policy formulation at management meetings
  • Participates in planning, development, implementation and control of the annual budget for the department
  • Tracks the use of volunteers and cost savings achieved
  • Presents to the Administrator, periodic reports reflecting the services and financial activities of the Volunteer Department and such special reports as may be required
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates volunteer services regularly and at least annually
  • Arranges for volunteers to provide support to the patient, family, or caregiver according to the interdisciplinary plan of care. Assign volunteers to office support as indicated
  • Supervises volunteers in their daily work
  • Assesses and identifies volunteer's education needs and implements appropriate programs. Coordinate and participate in volunteer training and orientation
  • Conducts staff meetings on a regular basis
  • Exhibits genuine interest in and compassion for patients and families dealing with end-of-life issues
  • Is a motivated, independent individual who can organize workload so that all functions are completed appropriately
  • Effectively and consistently communicates administrative directives to personnel and encourages interactive meetings and discussions

Professional Requirements:
  • Meets dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean
  • Completes annual educational requirements
  • Wears identification while on duty
  • Ensures confidentiality of patient's records
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices
  • Attends committee, PI and management meetings, as appropriate
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding operations, fire, safety and infection control
  • Actively participates in performance improvement activities of the organization
  • Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the organization
  • Lives the Mission, strives to achieve the Vision, and exemplifies the Core Values of the organization.
  • Works toward exceeding chosen Pillar goals in the areas of Employee Satisfaction, Customer Satisfaction, Quality Service, Compliance, Growth, and Financial Performance.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to the employee Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics.

Education and Experience:
  • High school graduate required, college graduate preferred
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in volunteer activities (Hospice preferred)
  • Experience in community volunteer service
  • Computer experience including knowledge of Microsoft Suite and/or Google Suite.

Other Qualifications
  • Has not been excluded from participating in Medicare and Medicaid programs.
  • Maintains eligibility to participate in Medicare and Medicaid programs throughout employment
  • Capable of providing emergency care as needed for any patient
  • Maintains a neat, well-groomed appearance at all times. Keeps personal appearance appropriate for patient care.
  • Ability and willingness to participate appropriately in a disaster or evacuation situation.
  • Participate in pre-employment and annual Tuberculosis screening.

Work Environment:
  • Primary office work with occasional fieldwork visiting patients in their homes, physician offices, hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, etc.
